Power
While spray collars may be similar in some ways, powering them is not one of them. All of the above-mentioned collars use batteries, but they can’t seem to agree on what type of battery to use, with everything from AA to lithium ion to 6V batteries. Be sure to check which you need if you want to have a backup just in case.
Materials
Citronella Bark Collars are generally made with rugged materials such as canvas to keep up with a dogs busy and energetic lifestyle. The clips and housing are made with durable plastic to allow for easy access and adjustments, without the worry of them falling apart.
Control
There are two ways in which Citronella Spray Collars can be controlled, one is by remote and one is through a smart collar that can detect when a dog barks. Which one is best really depends on how the trainer is going to use the collar. If it will be for short training sessions, while in the company of a trainer, then the remote control is fine and will give the trainer more control over when to release the spray. If the dog will be left alone and the purpose is to stop them from barking during this time, then a collar that detects the bark would be best.
Longevity
The majority of spray collars can last up to 7 days on standby, but this is just for the battery. The holding tank for the spray generally allows for approximately 30-35 uses. So if you use the remote control option listed above then you may make it the full 7 days before you have to worry about the collar. However, if you’ve opted to use one that detects barking and nobody is around, it’s quite possible that you will have to at least refill the citronella, or whichever scent you go with, on a daily basis. Continuous barking will also have an effect on the longevity of the battery being used.
