Your Bluetick Coonhound is renowned for it’s unique coat with a white background, tan markings and a speckled effect of fine black dots on their back, neck and ears, which give the effect of a dark blue blend. This is supposed to make them stand out in the dark, as they were once used centuries ago for hunting, especially at night. Their hair is short and not especially thick, neither does it shed a lot, only two or three times a year.

However, it is beautifully glossy, but in order to keep the gloss effect, you have to make sure that you give them a regular groom with a practical dog brush. A weekly brush with a soft grooming mitten or a medium bristle brush using one of these excellent designs we’ve chosen here will maintain their coat looking healthy and handsome at all times. Still, take care when brushing around their signature droopy ears, if they are sore, as they have a tendency to collect dirt inside them and become irritated when left untreated.

Material

Dog brushes are made from a variety of materials that are designed to remove hair as easily, and softly as possible. The rubber mittens and grooming tools attract loose hair, but also work at massaging their skin too. This is especially good, for encouraging healthy oils to develop and keep their coat looking glossy at all times. They are also waterproof, which means that you can use it when shampooing and bathing them. The metal bristle brushes are good at untangling and removing grit stuck in their fur. They are made with stainless steel bristle teeth that doesn’t irritate or corrode with time. The bristle brushes made from a fine wire-like material are good to attract and remove hair, as well as leaving a nice sheen shine to their coat. Finally the brush handle, usually sports a soft rubber or sponge surface that ensures for an easy firm grip.

Brush Head

Each grooming tool has a brush head designed, especially for detangling and removing hair with ease and gently, so as not to pull their fur or irritate their skin. In some cases the brush head is conveniently curved so that it follows the contour of their body, but also works at removing knots and grit more effectively. There are some great new innovative designs that have flexible moving heads, which move and brush more efficiently. The designs that come with dual-purpose, two-sided designs are intended for lots of different grooming purposes and are incredibly good value for money. Whether, you choose to detangle, or simply remove their hair; the idea is to keep it a nice, bond-brush time that gives your Bluetick Coonhound’s coat a healthy, long-lasting shine.

Application

When you groom your Bluetick Coonhound it encourages a moment of bonding between you both, but only if you ensure to keep it a gentle brushing experience that they will enjoy. Make sure you use soft brush strokes that dig down into their fur carefully and pull up in a clean, swift motion that gently removes their hair. When you meet a knot or grit; make sure you remove it and work away at it using your other hand, in order to pick and ease it out with care. Always, follow the direction that their fur grows in, unless you brush in circular motions, which you might do with rubber grooming tools, which will encourage oils to surface to their skin and work on improving the moisture of their skin and fur.  Finally, be very careful when brushing their head beautiful and their big droopy ears. They are prone to getting sore and infected, if this happens, then it is important to treat them as soon as possible, but always remember to take care when brushing over and around them.

Clean

Your grooming brush usually comes with an easy cleaning process to remove the hair efficiently and quickly. The rubber designs attract the hair, which then falls into your hand when you touch it. They are also waterproof and very easy to wash under water. The bristle brushes work effectively allowing you to remove the collected hair easily in clumps, which come loose in one go, so you can throw them away without getting fur on the floor, or on your clothes or furniture; as this is essentially what you are trying to stop. In some cases, the brush head will come off for you to clean them properly under water. The metal bristles, which are made from stainless steel are rust-proof. However, it is always recommended to wipe away the excess water, after you have rinsed them.
