Saluki Dog Crate Buying Guide

Every Saluki owner needs a dog crate; these crates serve as a form of safety and protection and can also help you travel with your pet. Whether it’s a short drive or a long road trip, you can bet on a dog crate to keep your Saluki safe and sound.

Material

Most crates are fashioned from wire; while some are made entirely of wire, others maintain a wire base and are covered in another material, like Oxford cloth, for example.

It’s essential to buy a cage that’s rustproof and has wire made from a sturdy material, like stainless steel. Wire crates offer maximum ventilation and allow you to see your dog easily because there is nothing substantial blocking your Saluki from view.

Wire crates also tend to come with a cloth or nylon cover; these covers help provide privacy for your Saluki.

Apart from wire cages, you can also buy a plastic crate. These are generally made from a blend of polymers and have chrome or stainless-steel plated door and lock. Plastic boxes are acceptable for air travel, too.

Size

Your crate should be large enough to accommodate your Saluki in any form; whether your pet is standing, sitting, or sleeping, they should have enough room to fit comfortably.

Measuring your dog’s length and height is helpful when deciding what crate size to buy. Salukis may need a larger size crate as they tend to be longer and taller than most dogs.

A divider panel can come in handy; this device lets you create a smaller section in the crate, which you can make larger as your puppy matures into a dog.

Safety and Locks

Your Saluki’s crate should be safe and secure; it must contain a fool-proof locking system which your Saluki cannot open from the inside. A simple latch-lock will be easier to open, and your Saluki could let themselves out. However, a more complex lock will keep your Saluki safe from outsiders as well as stop them from opening the door for themselves.
