Whippet Dog Crate Buyer’s Guide

With many different styles and options, our buying guide reviews the best dog crate your whippet on the market, so you can which one will suit the lifestyle of you and your pet.

Materials

The three main styles we found to be the best all have different materials, but one thing they all have in common is durability. The wire frame crates are made of steel except for the removable plastic bottom tray. The soft side crates are built with durable fabric and mesh for the outsides, while the frames are either steel or pvc. Whichever of the five dog crates you choose from, you can be assured that your whippet will be safe.

Portability

All the crates we looked at are touted as being portable in one way or another, whether the crate itself is portable, or it protects your dog for transportation, or both. The wire crates can be folded down, and come with a handle, that makes it easy to carry if you need to take the crate with you, or pack it away. However, they’re not portable with your whippet in them. The plastic travel crate is great for portability with your pooch but does not fold down for easier carrying or storage. The soft sided crates are the best of both worlds and are lighter due to the materials.

Size

All the crates we looked at come in several sizes and which one is best for you is really up to you. Keeping in mind whippets can get up to 22 inches in adulthood, you want to make sure you have a crate that will allow them the space the space they need. Puppies generally don’t need as much space, and when potty training it’s best to give them the least amount they need, but adult dogs will need more space. So, sizing will depend on the space you want to give your dog, and the space you have available in your living quarters.
