American Staffordshire Terrier Dog Food Buying Guide

Now that you have seen some of the options available to you, and be assured there are thousands more where those came from if none of the above meet your needs, I shall continue on. When buying any food for your dog, although it is much more important when they have allergies, you must read through the ingredients lists thoroughly to be sure the brand didn’t sneak in unhealthy ingredients into the food. Below I will go into some of the ingredients that are good for helping Arthritis and preventing heart diseases.

Ingredients That Help Arthritis

Sweet Potatoes, Fish Oil, Turmeric, Glucosamine And Chondroitin Sulfate, Ginger, Alfalfa, Papaya and Blueberries are all excellent ingredients that will help your pup’s joints strengthen against the Arthritis that naturally comes with old age. When looking through the ingredients list keep these ones in mind for your pup.

Ingredients That Help Strengthen Hearts By Using Protein

Beef, Pork, Chicken, Salmon, Egg and Wheat are all great ingredients for Protein although I would advise the meat sourced ingredients over the wheat. Meat sourced protein is the single best place to get the necessary proteins your dog needs for their daily diet. If you can find a dog food that is made mostly from meat, than you have found the perfect one for your pooch.

Now that we’ve gone over some of the ingredients to look for in your dog’s food I will explain some of the common terms used when you search.

Holistic

I had never heard of this before, but the principle is very simple. Any dog food that is proven to be balanced in vitamins and nutrients is called Holistic. That may not sound like an important thing, but if one vitamin is thrown off in your body major consequences occur. It is the same in your dog’s body.

Hypoallergenic

Hypoallergenic is a term used with many products over the internet as it means whatever it is attached to is made to lower allergic reactions. In the case of dog food, Hypoallergenic means the ingredients are picked because they are the least likely to set off an allergic reaction. However in the case of dog beds, hypoallergenic means they are made from a material that repels irritants such as dust mites.
