Choosing a Good Dog Groomer

Dog GroomerIf you are a true dog lover and care deeply about your pet you want to make sure that your pet has only the best. Even though you might not really think about it at first, it is very important that you do your homework when trying to locate a good dog groomer. First of all not all dog groomers are the same. Some have different styles and techniques and use different products (like dog brushes and dog hair dryers). There are several things that you want to check for in order to find a good dog groomer. First you will want to check and see how long they have been in business.

You can check with the Better Business Bureau to find out this information, and also if they have any complaints filed against them. When you first call ask them what experience they have with your particular type of dog. For example if you have a miniature collie, or a sheltie as they are commonly known, you will want to make sure the dog groomer knows how to properly groom their fur.

The dog groomer will also need to know that some dogs do not have fur they have hair, so it will have to be cleaned and cut differently. Their is also the problem of dealing with a dog’s temperament. Each dog is different and some are more aggressive than others. If the groomer is not used to handling your type of dog, than it is possible that you dog can get injured. Several people have had their dogs cut to the point where they needed stitches all because the person handling them was not experienced with their particular type of breed.

Some dog groomers will tell you that they only groom certain types of dogs, but some will not. When you take your dog for their first visit to the groomer you may want to stay around and wait, since your dog will obviously be a little nervous with a stranger handling them. You need to understand that dogs are similar to young children. They get very nervous in a new environment and when they are around new people.

Sometimes when it comes to choosing a dog groomer you may just have to try them out to see for yourself how well they can handle your dog. If you decide to do this then you will definitely want to make sure that you check your dog out thoroughly when you pick up your dog. You want to make sure there are no cuts or bruises on your dog. Also take the time to speak to the groomer and find out if there were any problems. Remember if you are not comfortable with the groomer than your dog will not be comfortable either.
