It’s friendly, cute, and trendy. But it may or may not be the breed of you. To understand its compatibility with you, read on with us.

Chuvasz History

Chuvasz Dog Breed Information All You Need To KnowThis is a comparatively modern breed; thus, decrypting its non-existent history is a mistake we’d best avoid. Instead, we can attempt to understand this breed through the history of its parents. According to some experts, a Chow-Chow was/is most definitely an ancient breed that was bred in Siberia.

The main tenet of this theory states that it is the result of crossbreeding the Samoyeds and the Tibetan Mastiffs. The breed became widely used in China for various purposes, including some morbid ones. Usually, it became a guarding and hunting dog. The Chuvasz was brought to England in the 1800s and was accepted by the AKC in 1904.

The second parent is the Kuvasz. This breed is another ancient breed migrated to Hungary from China. The reason for this seemingly apparent migration is stated as the Mongol Invasion. The Chuvasz was then developed in Hungary to its current state. Its large size and senses make it the best companion.

This diversity in its role as the protector, hunter, and friend made it perfect for people looking for respite from the bandits and dacoits that threatened the lands. The Kuvasz was accepted into the AKC’s roster in 1935.

Chuvasz Characteristics

This is a hybrid, so determining the characteristics is based more on guesswork than anything else. Typically, the coat will be medium in length, with varying colors between White, Cinnamon, Red, Blue, and Cream. The coat is typically going to be double-coated with a soft undercoat in most cases. The body is certified to be strong and sturdy, with capabilities meant to withstand impacts. This breed may get some folds and wrinkles as an inheritance gift. The muzzle will be a combination of both parent breeds. The ears are bound to be small, while the feet will be well padded.

How Big do Chuvasz Get

This good doggie is a medium breed meant for freedom. The height range for males is 22 to 25 inches, while for females, this range is 21 to 24 inches. The corresponding weight ranges are 70-90 lbs and 60-80 lbs for males and females, respectively.

How Long Does Chuvasz Live

The potential life expectancy of the Chuvasz is unfortunately not that much. The average lifespan of a Chuvasz puppy is 10 to 12 years.

How Much Does a Chuvasz Cost

The Chuvasz is an almost anonymous breed, which means that the breed’s price will remain meager. The value for a Chuvasz is more than 300 dollars.

Chuvasz Temperament/Personality

The Chuvasz is more of a brooding, serious type of dog. The breed is known to adapt positively to its own family but can be quite problematic in its interaction with other breeds. This inheritance makes it a problem child for most people. Its serious means that it can get a bit overprotective of its family, which elevates its suspiciousness of other humans and dogs. To reduce that, you will have to keep it under the supervision and socialize it extensively from a tender young age.

This breed prides itself on its randomness and stubbornness. Training it can be slightly more than a nuisance if you don’t know which buttons you’re supposed to push in what order. To train it properly, we would recommend obedience training from an early age. The reason for this is to instill obedience and good behavior in it from the get-go. The other defining feature of this breed is its loyalty; come hell or high water.

Caring for Chuvasz

The Chuvasz, as moody as it may seem, is a softie by heart. To help this softie survive, we need you to take care of it the right way.

Chuvasz Nutrition

The Chuvasz is a medium-sized breed but will demand a full-course tasty meal. Giving it at least three cups of daily food is a necessity with this breed. You don’t have to worry about it gaining weight if you are giving it daily exercise.

How to Groom a Chuvasz

The coat is the main feature of grooming for any breed. In Chuvasz’s case, you’ll have to brush its coat at least every other day if you don’t want fur floating around the house. One more important thing is the fact that this is a non-hypo-allergenic breed. In simple terms, it means that people with allergies should beware of this breed. Apart from that, bathe it as per its hygiene needs. Cut its nails to keep its paws safe from tears and wear. Brushing its teeth every other day or at least two times per week should be a necessity. The only other thing you have to take care of is cleaning its folds and ears regularly to eradicate the chances of infections festering there.

Chuvasz Activity Levels

The Chuvasz is a moderately active breed and thus requires activities based on that. Normally we would recommend giving it at least 50 minutes of continuous and consistent exercise. If you can do that, then everything should be fine.

Caring for Chuvasz

The Chuvasz is a medium to semi-medium maintenance breed. The grooming part of this breed is average compared to the other breeds. What is hard is the training of this breed. The Chuvasz is very stubborn and requires a trained firm teacher to teach it. Socialization shouldn’t be much of a problem with this breed. The activity requirements are truly average. We wouldn’t recommend this breed for people with no true prior experience, mainly because of its training requirements.

Chuvasz Health

The Chuvasz doesn’t face a list of vulnerabilities due to its hybrid nature; it faces a whole book of problems. These include Entropion, Eye problems, Patellar Luxation, Cataracts, Elbow Dysplasia, Hip Dysplasia, Distichiasis, Gastric Torsion, Stenotic Nares, Elongated Soft Palate, and Persistent Pupillary Membranes (PPM).

The best solution to all of these problems is avoidance. Take your bud to the vet’s office as often as you can to give it check-ups. These check-ups will make diagnosis easier and eventually make your pet healthier.
