Cornish Rex History

The first Cornish Rex was brought into the world on July 21, 1950, on a ranch in Bodmin Moor, Cornwall, England, when a tortoiseshell and white irregular reared feline named Serena brought forth five cats.

The jumble contained one wavy-covered orange and a white male cat, which Nina Ennismore, Serena’s proprietor, named Kallibunker.

Kallibunker’s hair was short and wavy, and, rather than having the cubby body like that of its littermates and mom, Kallibunker’s body was long and flexible.

A subsequent mating was set up for Kallibunker and its mother, and wavy-covered cats were delivered again.

The name Cornish Rex was settled on for the new variety because of the variety’s Cornish beginning and the likeness to the Astrex hare.

Two Cornish Rexes showed up in North America in 1957, the graciousness of fancier Fran Blancheri.

The CFA acknowledged the Cornish for the title in 1964 and currently acknowledges the Cornish Rex.
