Coton-beagles are cheerful, entertaining, and intelligent. They adopt these highly admirable traits from their parents, which are both quite famous themselves. As a hybrid dog, they result from the cross between a Coton de Tulear and a Beagle. And this gives us a dog that has aristocratic looks and a fun, energetic personality.

These cheerful dogs are small-sized, with their height reaching 12 inches on average. Their coats are fluffy and soft, just like the Coton de tuler. They are usually good around children and other pets, but it is best not to leave them with small children as they might hurt the small dog. They are well-suited for people living in an apartment because of their small size.

Coton Beagle History

Coton Beagle Dog Breed Information All You Need To Know

As a new designer breed that originated in 2004, their history is yet to be written. The reason or place of their origin is still unknown. Their parent, Cotton de Tuler, has its origins in the Tulear region of Madagascar. In the beginning, they were used as ratters on ships by the sailors. They were also used as companion dogs due to their great loyalty and ability to stick around with you no matter where you went.

The beagles are directly related to the Talbot hound. They were created in the 8th century and then brought to England in the 11th century by William I, where they were used for hunting purposes. But the Talbot hounds were slow; this inspired breeders to cross them with the Greyhound. And as a result, the beagle came into existence.

Coton Beagle Characteristics

Coton Beagle is small, compact, and petite. Usually, they inherit their coats from the cotton de tuler. As a result, their coats are soft to fluffy and soft to the touch. However, they can also inherit the beagles’ coat, in which case it would be straight and wiry. The possible coat colors include White, brown, off-white, tan, black, and red.

They have small, proportionate legs, which makes it hard for them to run. Their faces usually carry fun and cheerful expression. With small dark eyes, a black nose, and large floppy ears, this dog will surely win your heart with its cuteness.

How Big Do Coton Beagle Get

Coton-Beagles are small-sized dogs with a slender build. The males have an average height of 12 – 15 inches and an average weight of 15 – 30lbs. The females have an average height of 10 – 14 inches and an average weight of 10 – 25 lbs.

How to Groom a Coton Beagle

Coton beagles have a double coat that doesn’t shed so much. So brushing them multiple times a week with a hard bristle brush would be enough. In addition to that, bathing them at least once per month is necessary; otherwise, they may become smelly and have an overall untidy look.

Coton beagles are quite active (thanks to the beagle side of their parents) so giving them a least 30 – 50 minutes of daily exercise is advisable. They will enjoy going out with you. Whether it be a walk, jog, or hike, they love being out. You can also play different games with them, which you will enjoy, and that can be a bonding moment for you and your pup.

Caring for Coton Beagle

Coton beagles have a sensitive nature and are very empathetic. They also love being the center of attention, and if left alone for long periods, they can become quite bored and depressed. So it will be your responsibility to spend a lot of time with them and let them know that you are there for them. You should also be conscious about their ears which can become home to ticks, so cleaning them 3 – 4 times per week is advisable.
