Doberman collie is adventurous, loyal, and intelligent. They adopt these admirable qualities from their parents, both of which are well known. This agile dog results from a cross between the Doberman and the Border Collie. These dogs are super loyal and love to make their owners happy and play with them. Though, they tend to become quite shy around strangers.

They have sparse coats with straight hair. Their appearance usually shows a lot of variation from individual to individual. They are usually good with other pets and small children, which makes them good family pets. But due to their large size (weighing up to 90lbs), they are not suited for an apartment lifestyle. It is better to keep them in a house with a fenced garden.

Doberman Collie History

Doberman Collie Dog Breed Information All You Need To KnowDoberman collie is one of the new breeds of companion dogs that originated in the last 20 – 25 years. And because of that, there isn’t much that we know about them. The man behind creating the Doberman breed is believed to be Karl Friedrich. He was a letter-man who felt unsafe while delivering letters to neighbourhoods with bad reputations and wanted a loyal companion who would accompany him through this for protection.

Border Collie became popular when Queen Victoria developed a liking for them while she was visiting Balmoral. Initially, they were known as sheepdogs, and a standard was set for them in 1906; but it wasn’t until 1916 that the name Border Collie was used for them.

Doberman Collie Characteristics

Doberman collies are muscular, athletic, and tall. They have elongated bodies with strong muscular legs that help them run and jump high (Yes, they can jump quite high). Their muzzles are long and tapered, and a small black nose at the tip. Their eyes are bright and usually have a brown color. Their strong jaw and well-formed teeth give them a dangerous look.

They usually have sparse coats with short straight hair, but they can also be medium-length and rough. Their coat color is dependent on which parent breed dominates. They have a black or tan color, and sometimes white patches resembling that of the collie are seen on the chest.
