Why Look for Dog-Friendly Hotels?

For pet owners, nothing can compare to the joy of visiting your favorite locations and taking a well-deserved break with your family, including your best friend. While some people might think that getting a dog sitter might be a good idea, there are actually plenty of dog-friendly hotels that accept different types of pets, including dogs. Whether you’re looking to have a short or long-term stay, or traveling with multiple pets, you’ll find suitable accommodation from the best pet-friendly hotel chains.

Best Dog-Friendly Hotel Chains

Most of the options listed here will come with pet policies, and depending on the number of pets will promptly provide your pooch with water bowls to quench their thirst upon arrival.

Red Roof Inn

If you’re on vacation around the U.S., Japan, or Brazil, you’ll find that their Red Roof Inn branches are welcoming and accommodating of pets. Unlike in other hotels, the Red Roof welcomes kids and pets free of charge; according to their pet policy, all Red Collection locations have a pet weight limit of 40 pounds per pet. Most of the time, two pets will be allowed to stay with you without any additional fees, but it’s best to check at the front desk first.

Be sure to declare that you have four-legged guests with you; while all of these Inns offer pet-friendly accommodations, some will only allow one dog in each room. So if you’re having a hard time looking for pet-friendly restaurants, you can always look through their room service menu for delicious meals.

Kimpton Hotels

With plenty of pet-friendly locations across the country, Kimpton Hotels should be included in your itinerary if you plan to take any kind of animal with you. Pet parents will be thrilled to know that they accept dogs of all sizes, as well as parrots, hamsters, rabbits, and any other kind of animal. This great option also provides dog bowls and complimentary treats for your pets to ensure a happy and comfortable stay.

Because they have no pet fees, you can stay within your budget every time you book a guestroom with them; all kinds of animals can stay without an extra charge.

While Virgin Hotels have only recently allowed pets inside their establishments, they are huge dog fans, offering pet-friendly rooms without additional pet fees. So if you want your dog to experience life inside a luxury hotel, there’s no better place than this option.

Once inside, you’ll find that there are no restrictions, so you can bring small dogs to large dogs where they’ll get the red carpet treatment. Their welcome kit includes food bowls, pet beds, blankets, and a bandana that they can wear on their adventures!

Best Western

With over 1,600 hotels spread throughout America, Canada, as well as the Caribbean, you can find the perfect place to vacation with your furry family members. This popular hotel brand offers a comfortable stay for dog breeds of all kinds but there are weight restrictions that need to be met. To ensure that you don’t pay an additional cost for your dog, it needs to be at a maximum weight of 80 pounds — the good news is that you can have two dogs per room.

If you have other kinds of pets, you can also call in advance to let them know about your cat, snake, and even monkey to give them a great accommodation. Some branches go the extra mile by providing your pets with blankets and treats so you can rest easy knowing that they love their new environment.

Choice Hotels

Operating hotels such as Comfort Suites, Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Sleep Inn, Rodeway Inn, MainStay Suites, EconoLodge, Suburban, and Clarion, Choice Hotels are well-known nationwide. Each of these options offers amazing vacation spots and is among the best dog-friendly hotels where you can bring one of your pets. However, not every state will permit pets to stay and others will have restrictions, so it’s best to visit their website to find out about pet policies and fees in individual locations.

Because Choice Hotel doesn’t offer free stays for pets, you can expect to be charged a pet fee, Unfortunately, some breeds aren’t allowed and a few areas of their properties aren’t accessible to pets.

Four Seasons

Established back in the 1960s, the Four Seasons has since become a luxury chain of hotels that’s dedicated to providing exemplary service and excellent amenities for all their guests, including your dog. For instance, their individual hotel in Los Angeles provides services for your pets, which include bowls with water and bowls with treats. Furthermore, pets are actively welcomed here, where you can use their pet-sitting services when you have errands to run or business to attend.

They also have dog-walking services, as well as a pet menu for your pup’s favorite meals — you won’t be disappointed when you book your stay here. The only drawback is that there are size limits in this hotel, and your dog will need to be no more than 30 pounds to get the same hospitality as you.

Westin Hotels

Westin Hotels have 165 pet-friendly locations, but their policies will vary from one branch to another, which include the nightly fee and the maximum size of your pet. All Westin Hotels and Resorts accept medium-sized dogs and those that are smaller, where they can experience the same luxuries that you do, along with special amenities just for pets, all free of charge. All their guests are given a welcome kit that includes water and food bowls, a pet version of their signature Heavenly Bed, and an in-room sign.

However, owners will first need to sign a waiver upon arrival to ensure that they will be responsible for cleaning or paying damages.

Homewood Suites

These hotels powered by Hilton are home to a chain of classy extended-stay hotels, which have recently become 100% pet-friendly last year. Most of their 500+ locations offer waste stations and pet relief areas, along with pet perks such as feeding bows and tasty dog treats. With a free breakfast every morning and free social events at night, it’s the best place to make your furry friend feel right at home.

Just make sure to check their pet policy online, which is different for every property they manage. Unfortunately, there are size limits; pet fees range from $25 to $125, depending on the number of pets, the type of pets, and their combined weight.

Sheraton Hotels

Building an empire since 1937, Sheraton Hotels have been around for a long time but has recently started to accept dogs and cats with open arms. They’ve been able to keep up with the changing times by listening to their guests, and have extended their hospitality to provide pets with the peace and comfort that they deserve. While most branches only cater to dogs, some will welcome cats as well but it’s best to do research before going to your chosen location.

Each hotel will have different weight restrictions which vary from 20 to 80 pounds, and most hotels will let you keep two dogs per room provided that they’re never left unattended. Some branches will also require you to pay a one-time fee that ranges from $25 to $150, while others ask for a daily charge starting from $35.

Loews Hotels

Road trips are always more fun with our pets and this option is perhaps the best place to treat and pamper our canine pals after a long drive. It consistently ranks among the best pet-friendly hotels in the world, where visitors can experience bliss at any of the over two dozen locations they have throughout America and Canada. It’s also one of the few hotel chains that offer a curated program that specifically targets dogs, known as the Loews Loves Pets Program.

Through this program, you can be sure that staff will love your pet as if it’s their own — you can also travel light because they’ll readily provide you with a dog bed, scratching post, litter boxes, pet toys, and more. Upon check-in, your pets will also receive bowls, placemats, and treats while you can also enjoy other perks such as:

They also have a weight limit of 75 lbs which is a bummer for larger dogs and only allows for 2 pets in each room. Finally, they provide housekeeping services for guests with pets but the owner will need to be present or their pet will need to be crated.
