Goldmaraner, also known as Goldmaraner Pointer, is affectionate, alert, and playful. These loyal dogs adopt their admirable traits from their parents, both purebred and very popular. This dog is a hybrid that results from a cross between the Weimaraner and the Golden Retriever. They are affectionate and loveable dogs that will make you fall in love with them as soon as you see them.

They are medium to large-sized dogs that have a medium-length coat which is usually straight or wavy. They are best for people with a large fenced yard or garden, people with some experience with dogs, or active families with kids.

Goldmaraner History

Goldmaraner Dog Breed Information All You Need To KnowGoldmaraner is a new designer breed that is still struggling to make its name in the dog world, and there isn’t much we know about its history. So, let’s look at their parent’s histories to get to know them better. Lord Tweedmouth developed the Golden Retriever by crossing a Water spaniel with his Dog, Nous. He was aiming to get a dog that had an excellent nose and outstanding Retrieving skills.

The Weimaraners were initially used for hunting large game, and by large, we mean animals like bears and wolves. This gives us an idea of how strong and courageous this dog can be. They developed in Germany during the 1800s in Weimar Court.

Goldmaraner Characteristics

As a cross between a low shedding (Weimaraner) and a high shedding (Golden retriever) dog, the Goldmaraner is likely to inherit the high-shedding trait from its Golden Retriever parent. They can inherit the coat of either parent, the hard short coat of the Weimaraner, or the long and free flowing coat of the Golden Retriever.

The most common coat colors are blue, gray, silver, and fawn. They have a muscular build with deeps chests and a straight back that is slightly sloped. Their ears are often long and floppy and stand on a square head with a long muzzle that supports a black or brown snout at its tip.

How Big do Goldmaraner Get

Goldmaraners are medium to large-sized dogs. The males tend to have an average height of 22 – 27 inches and an average weight of 55 – 75 lbs. The female Goldmaraners are slightly small; they have an average height of 18 – 20 inches and an average weight of 55 – 70 lbs.

How Long Does a Goldmaraner Live

These large canines with athletic and well-built bodies look stunning; there is no doubt in that. But this large size and too much activity can take a toll on them. On average, they can live anywhere between 10 to 12 years. We know that’s not a lot, and as Agnes Sligh Turnbull said, “Dogs’ lives are too short. Their only fault, really”.

How much does a Goldmaraner Cost

The price of any pup depends on various factors that include; the reputation of the breeder, the parent’s bloodline, and the litter’s size. On average, a Golden Shepherd may cost you between $1000 – $2000.

Goldmaraner Temperament/Personality

Goldmaraners are loving, affectionate, and friendly. They are super loyal and protective and will do anything to please their owners, along with the alert personality they inherit from the Weimaraner parent, making them great watchdogs. These puppies also tend to inherit a prey drive that causes them to chase small animals, so early socialization is necessary to avoid problems later on.

They love bonding with their family and becoming part of every task that you may be doing. They are usually good and well-behaved around kids, but their large size means they can potentially cause harm to small kids by knocking them over. So, always supervise your pup whenever you let him near your kids.

Caring for Goldmaraner

Caring for your companion will require some effort from your end. It would be best to ensure that you’re using the right kinds of products. You need to take care of their coats, nails, and teeth, so they keep looking their best. Feeding them the right kind of food in the appropriate amount is essential to avoid any weight issues. Finally, making sure that they get their activity requirements met so that they don’t become lousy.

Goldmaraner Nutrition

Goldmaraners are large canines with high levels of energy. They need to eat a lot to maintain a healthy weight. But feeding them too much can cause obesity. Generally, they do well on 3 cups of dry dog food per day. You can also give them wet dog food to mix things up; giving them treats now and then is acceptable if you don’t overdo it.

How to Groom a Goldmaraner

The long coat of the Goldmaraner can get matted and tangled easily. So, it would be best to brush         them daily with a curry or hard-bristled brush. They should also be bathed when necessary; excessive bathing can result in dry skin, which is highly irritable for the Dog. Cleaning their ears and brushing their teeth at least once a week is essential for their well-being.

Goldmaraner Activity Levels

Goldmaraners have a lot of energy in them that needs to be dissipated. They also need to exercise to maintain good cardiovascular health and a healthy weight. So it would be best to take them out for walks, swims, or hikes and ensure at least 90 minutes of activity per day.

Caring for Goldmaraner

As an intelligent and affectionate dog, The Goldmaraner needs constant mental stimulation and human contact to remain sane; otherwise, they can develop self-destructive behavior and separation anxiety. So, ensure that you don’t leave them alone for long periods and spend a lot of quality time with them.

Goldmaraner Health

In addition to their good looks and admirable traits, the Goldmaraner also live healthy lives. Usually, they don’t develop any diseases or health concerns early on. Still, they can develop problems like Hip Dysplasia, Bloating, Von Willebrand’s Disease, Entropion, and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).
