Ingredients
Holistic Blend is committed to only using top-quality natural ingredients. They do not include any nasty chemicals, by-products, added salt or sugar, artificial colorings or flavors, fillers or binders in their recipes. They also do not use corn, wheat or soy ingredients in their food. Their ingredients are sourced across the world including from Canada, the US and New Zealand.
Holistic Blend focuses their recipes on ingredients with high bioavailability, including minimally processed foods and chelated minerals. Their main sources of meat protein are lamb and chicken, with some fish flavors also available. Chickpeas and lentils are added to their recipes, which contribute plant-based protein and carbohydrates. Flaxseed and salmon oil are added, which add a healthy dose of omega 3 fatty acid. Each recipe includes different types of nutrient and antioxidant-dense fruits and vegetables.
Other interesting ingredients included in many of their recipes are rosemary powder, turmeric, kelp and green-lipped mussels. In this case, rosemary powder is used as a natural preservative. Turmeric is a popular spice for its health benefits, which include helping arthritis and other health problems. Acadia kelp is added as a source of iodine, which is a harder to get mineral. Green-lipped mussels are an ingredient that is growing in popularity in top-shelf dog foods for its success in treating dogs with joint and arthritis problems.
The nutrient content of Holistic Blend’s recipes vary greatly across their line, so it is important to always check the label before trying something new. Many of their products are specialized for weight control or other health problems, but are not clearly labeled as such. Overall, the nutritional values of all of their dog foods are sufficient by our standards. Holistic Blend has relatively high protein values in their dry food, which range from 25-38 percent of overall calories. The fat content is moderate at between 15-18 percent and carbohydrates make up the remainder of calories. Their fiber content is generally between 3-5 percent, which is on par with the recommended value in dog foods. However, a couple formulas have fiber contents of 10 percent, which is very high.
Comparison to Other Leading Brands
Holistic Blend is a very expensive dog food brand, marketed towards those who are willing to shell out a pretty penny to give their dog the best. However, it is important to keep in mind that the added cost goes towards higher-quality ingredients that you should expect to pay more for. Their dry dog food comes in lots of different sizes, which is convenient for testing different products and flavors. A 25-pound bag of their dry dog food is priced at around $80. Their wet food is sold in cases of 12 13-ounce cans for $60, which comes out to $5 per can.
Holistic Blend’s prices are more than almost all more widely available dog foods, though some specially formulated or niche brands have similar prices. Blue Buffalo and Merrick are great brands to look into for natural dog foods in the $50-$60 range. Check out our other options for grain-free or organic dog food across all price ranges.
Recall History
Holistic Blend has never had a product recall in the history of the brand, which is reflective of their high standards for quality in safety in all their products.

Holistic Blend Review Conclusion
We give Holistic Blend a final rating of “great.” They are a reputable company that uses only high-quality ingredients and has an impressive record of safety and quality. On the other hand, they are a very expensive brand with quite a bit of variety in nutritional values between different foods in their product line that are not clearly communicated in their packaging.
