Holistic Select’s dog foods are made with top-quality ingredients that undergo rigorous testing before inclusion in any of their products. Whole meats are the primary ingredient in all of their recipes, which include premium proteins like chicken, turkey, duck and salmon. Digestible carbohydrates such as brown rice and oatmeal are also included in all of their formulas. Holistic Select adds a variety of natural supplements to all of their dog foods including omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, dried fermentation products and chicory root, which is a valuable source of inulin. Vitamin and mineral supplements are also added, but they are not chelated, which makes them less biologically available.

Holistic select’s dog food is made with pure, authentic ingredients and no artificial flavors, preservatives or other chemicals. However, they do include a couple of ingredients that are sometimes considered to be controversial. Brewer’s yeast, a byproduct of the beer making process, is included in all their recipes, which some dogs are allergic to. However, if your dog is not allergic, yeast has quite a few health benefits including helping repel fleas and support the immune system. Beet pulp, a byproduct of extracting sugar from beets, is also sometimes denounced as a cheap filler ingredient. However, beet pulp is thought to contribute to intestinal health and balance blood sugar levels, which is why it is included in so many dog food recipes, even high-end brands.

While nutrition varies a bit between their different product lines, all are satisfactory in their proportions. On average, 41 percent of calories in their formulas are from carbohydrates, 35 percent are from fat and 24 percent are from protein. The estimated fiber content Is 4.4 percent, which is in line with the recommended value for dog foods.

While the company is based in and manufactures all of their products in Indiana, USA, they do not provide much information on where they source their ingredients. If you are looking for more information about the ingredients in their products, you can check out the ingredients dictionary on their website.
