Following is a complete list of Hounds & Gatos’ dog food products:

Wet Dog Food:

Hounds & Gatos prioritizes using the highest-quality ingredients that function to enhance the flavors and nutritional value of their foods. Their recipes contain no soy, corn, plant proteins or artificial ingredients. All their recipes are made with limited ingredients, which is great for dogs with allergies or food sensitivities. They center each of their products around one type of meat, including select cuts of poultry, fish and beef. Meat broths are also added, which function to add moisture and flavor to dog foods. Unlike most other brands, Hounds & Gatos does not add any carbohydrate sources to their dog foods.

Hounds & Gatos’ recipes are supplemented with added vitamins and minerals essential for canine health. They also add agar agar, a vegetable gelatin, as a binding agent in all of their dog foods. Sunflower and salmon oils contribute omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids and boast the highest bioavailability for dogs depending on the oils’ quality. Chelated minerals, which are minerals attached to a protein, are also included. Chelation makes minerals easier to absorb and are a common addition in higher quality dog foods.

The nutrient content in Hound and Gatos’ products are relatively consistent across their range, all of which are satisfactory for dogs needing a high-protein, low-carbohydrate diet. On average, 61 percent of calories in their formulas are from fat, 32 percent are from protein ad 7 percent are from carbohydrates. The estimated fiber content is 6.8 percent, which is above the recommended value for dogs, which is usually between 3 and 5 percent.

Comparison to Other Leading Brands

Hounds & Gatos is a moderately expensive dog food brand – certainly more expensive than your average grocery store canned food but less expensive than some holistic and natural dog foods. It is important to always keep in mind that the added cost goes towards higher-quality ingredients that you should expect to pay more for. Their rabbit flavor is the most expensive, at $82 for a case of 12 13-ounce cans, or nearly $7 per can. Their beef formula is the least expensive at $34 for the same amount. Most of their other flavors are between $40 and $50 for a case.

Hounds & Gatos is more expensive than most widely available natural dog food brands, with Merrick being one option that is similar in price as well as being primarily meat-based. Blue Buffalo and Taste of the Wild are great options to look into if you are on a budget. Remember to check the ingredient list, because most canned dog foods include some added carbohydrates.
