How To Care For A ChihuahuaChihuahua’s are the smallest breed of dogs and are more into an indoor setting. So, a pleasant home environment can affect them amazingly. A loving and warm home helps them adjust easily into new surroundings, especially for puppies.

If you own a Chihuahua or are planning to bring one home, it is essential that you care for them specially. They can be demanding and stubborn, but they’re equally adorable and loving.

Chihuahua’s are full of energy and are always jumping from one place to another, and that’s what we love about them. To let them be their comfortable selves but also be safe and healthy, you need to give them the best possible care.

How to care for a Chihuahua puppy?

Well, for starters, puppy-proofing your house is very important. This means getting rid of all the toxic material that they can chew on. Trust us, you are preventing a major safety hazard by doing so.

Chihuahua puppies are affectionate, but if they see something or someone new, it makes them agitated, and they start barking.  Keeping that in mind, a socialization period is very important in their lives, preferably in the first three months. We suggest that you teach them how to interact by taking them outside to make them familiar with their surroundings.

Give them a specific place where they can play and rest. In fact, to make them feel comfortable, buy them a nice, cozy bed and fill it with blankets. And also give them a lot of chew toys! Because you don’t want to get up in the morning and find your work clothes to be half-chewed. It’s not the best sight!

How to care for a Chihuahua senior?

Food determines the health and life span of a Chihuahua. And since they are a small breed, high quality and high protein food that is easy to digest is a must.  Most people recommend feeding them dry kibble food. However, to give them the appropriate food, we advise you to consult a veterinarian first.

Chihuahuas have a fast metabolism but a small stomach. And the best way to maintain their health and keep them strong from inside out is to feed them small meals several times a day.

Another thing to keep in mind is their hyper nature, because of which they tend to dehydrate a lot. For this reason, we suggest that you clean their water bowl and keep it accessible at all times.

Always keeping him/her active, both mentally and physically, is an effective option. Also, as they grow older, you will need to increase your visits to the vet.

How to care for a disabled Chihuahua?

A disabled Chihuahua needs round the clock care. The first thing to do is to consult with a reputed vet and give them the recommended pain killers and antibiotics.

They will also need functioning oral syringes full of water and baby food for intake. But most importantly, lots and lots of cuddling and love.

These days, there are dog wheelchairs that are available according to the size of your dog. You can buy one that is right for your pet, which will give them increased mobility and a sense of freedom again!

To Sum up

Chihuahuas can sometimes be pretty stubborn and hard to take care of. But then again, all the positive energy and affection that they show you makes it all worth it.

The biggest thing with them is that they need a ton of attention and love, and that is all that matters to them at the end of the day. Even more so than other breeds.  So just make sure that you attend to their needs with nothing but love, and they will be healthy throughout.
