How to Groom an Irish Troodle

Grooming this breed depends on the type of coat that they inherit. Usually, the Irish Troodle has a long, silky, and curly coat that can become tangled and matted quite easily if it’s not brushed daily. Therefore, it is advisable to brush them at least 4 – 5 times per week with a wire-bristled brush.

Bathing them should be reserved only when they get dirty or start stinking. This usually happens when they play outside in the mud and start appearing untidy and unpleasant. Also, ensure that you are clipping their nails and cleaning their ears; you can either do it with a cotton ball or an ear cleaner.

Troodles are prone to Sebaceous Adenitis, a disease in which the dog undergoes loss of fur, itchiness, and scaling. So, it is important to ensure that you are taking care of their skin properly. Use medicated shampoo approved by your local vet, use essential oils to massage their scalp, and ensure that they eat a healthy and balanced diet with preferably low sodium dog food.

But they still develop some health problems as they age; these include Patellar Luxation, Glaucoma, Hip Dysplasia, Sebaceous Adenitis, Cushing’s Disease, and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).
