How to Groom an Irish Wolfoodle

The amount of effort into grooming the Irish Wolfhound depends on the type of coat they inherit. Typically, these pups take the coat of their Poodle parent, which sheds minimally and is dense with medium-length curly hair.

So, brushing them at least 2 -3 times per week with a hard bristle brush is a good place to start; this will keep their coat looking neat and tangle-free. Their ears are covered with hair, which leaves them susceptible to ticks and fleas. So ensure that you clean them with a proper dog ear cleaner.

Irish Wolfhounds are generally quite chill and lazy, but they tend to inherit the energetic side of the Poodle, which balances the laziness they have. They are also quite big, so taking them on walks is necessary for them to stretch out. On average, aim for at least 75 minutes of daily activity, and if you are usually busy, think about investing in a treadmill so at least they can walk at home.

Caring for Irish Wolfoodle

Irish Wolfoodle is a big dog, requiring a lot of room to be comfortable and play around. They prefer a large fenced garden or yard instead of an apartment. Having a large yard will ensure that they don’t run out of space to play, which is important to keep them mentally stimulated as they are known for getting bored and developing self-destructive behavior.

Irish Wolfoodle Health

Irish Wolfoodle is a hybrid, which is known to have way fewer health problems as compared to the purebreds. But still, they can inherit some diseases from their parents including, Hip Dysplasia, Gastric Dilation Volvulus, Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), Cataracts, and Glaucoma, Wobbler Syndrome, and Corneal Dystrophy.
