The La Pom is a cross of the famed Lhasa Apso and the spitz-type Pomeranian. We can say with a hundred percent certainty here that the La Pom is a cute dog. We don’t know why the La Pom was created, but it was most probably to get a cute designer dog. Also, some people complain about the Pomeranian’s energetic nature, so maybe the La Pom was an attempt to make it tamer.

Irrespective of the reason for its creation, we have a cute dog perfect for small and large families. The following paragraphs will explain this canine in detail.

La Pom History

La Pom Dog Breed Information All You Need To KnowThe only way to understand a bit about the La Pom is to understand its parents. The Lhasa Apso is a sacred Chinese breed. These canines would often guard the temples that housed Buddhist Monks. They had a fierce streak of loyalty, which made them good guard dogs. Some experts believe that the Lhasa Apso has Tibetan Terrier blood coursing through its body. The Dalai Lama was responsible for exporting/gifting this dog to the outside world.

The Pomeranian is a small dog that was bred in Pomerania, part of Germany. This small dog is a descendent of the ancient spitz dogs that would brave the cold and treacherous lands of their respective area. Some of its family members are the Norwegian Elkhound, Samoyed and German Spitz. The breed rose to fame during the 1900s throughout the US. The La Pom has yet to gain even a fraction of its parent’s recognition.

La Pom Characteristics

The La Pom has no fixed standards since it is a mixed breed. However, there is a high probability that the La Pom will have a double-layered coat. The length of the coat should be medium. If the La Pom takes after the Pomeranian, you will find it to have spitz-like pointed and sharp features. The eyes of the La Pom will either be Blue or Brown.

How Big do La Pom Get

The La Pom is one of the smallest breeds in the designer category. The males and females can be as small as 7 inches tall and are at best 12 inches tall. The weight range for the La Pom is 7 to 15 lbs. The weight range for the La Pom should be kept within bounds if you don’t want the La Pom to have health problems.

How Long Does La Pom Live

The lifespan of the La Pom has not been determined through statistical values. The only range that we have is based on the lifespans of the La Pom’s parents. We believe that it can live anywhere between 12 and 14 years of age with the right care.

How Much Does a La Pom Cost

The cost of an average La Pom should remain between 300 and 700 dollars. Numerous factors determine and influence the price, so we can’t give you an accurate figure. Also, the appearance of the La Pom is not constant, so being specific about the price range is useless.

La Pom Temperament/Personality

Because the La Pom is descended from two companion dogs, it is highly social. It has a tremendous amount of love stored in its small body, ready to explode at any moment. It has a chirpy personality and a slightly attention-gaining nature. This dog is ideal for parents looking for a good companion for their children.

If you have the right experience, training the La Pom is simple. If you don’t, you don’t have to worry that much because there is a first time for everything. You can learn everything there is to know about dog training by using a Dog Training Book. If you still can’t train it, then there should be a dog trainer in your vicinity that you can ask for a bit of help.

Caring for La Pom

The needs of each doggie are unique and important. Therefore, it is your duty to understand your doggie’s needs to make its and your own life simpler and happier.

La Pom Nutrition

The La Pom, like its parents, is a small dog with a thin build. It does not have a lot of body mass to maintain. When the La Pom reaches maturity, the diet should remain between two and three cups. If you get a puppy, you will need to look for appropriate supplements and dietary additions. You’ll also need a Puppy Milk Replacer.

How to Groom a La Pom

You groom the La Pom like any other average effort requiring dog. The first thing is brushing the La Pom’s coat. You will have to brush its coat at least three times per week. You will have to brush it more often based on the season. Bathe it only on a per need basis; excessive bathing isn’t good for its health. You will also have to brush its teeth at least four times per week. The nails should be kept short to reduce the chances of breaks and tears.

La Pom Activity Levels

The activity requirements for an average La Pom are manageable by human standards. You will have to give it between 40 to 50 minutes of activity every day. You can give it more exercise, but decrease the intensity. Its size and endurance aren’t meant for vigorous activity, so please be careful.

Caring for La Pom

One factor that most people overlook is the size of the La Pom. The La Pom is a small little burrito that cannot be left out in the open, like in a yard. You may find other birds and animals preying on your doggie if you leave it alone. You will have to keep it inside of the house. There are a few common questions that assail our minds when we think about keeping it inside of the house.

Where will it sleep inside? You can get a Dog Bed for your small little beanie. There are a variety of different beds that you can get. Is there anything else that you will need for indoor accommodation? No, not necessarily, but there are some things that we recommend. The first is a Pooper Scooper, and the second is a few Chew Toys for Dogs. The latter will keep your furniture safe, while the former will keep your sanity in check!

La Pom Health

Mixed breeds usually have a lot of susceptibilities. Small-sized mixed breeds compared to normal mixed breeds have even more possible conditions. The additional portion of these health hazards stems from their size and skeletal shape. All of the conditions that we refer to won’t necessarily affect your canine, but there is a high probability they will if you don’t take care of your canine’s health.

How do you take care of a canines’ health? You start by regularizing health check-ups, give it at least one thorough check-up per month. For the La Pom, we specifically recommend giving it a Dog DNA Test to uncover any hidden cause for concern. The next thing you have to look at is the diet and exercise routines. The healthier you make them, the better your doggie will be.
