The Lagotto Romagnolo (plural: Lagotto Romagnoli) also goes by the name Romagna Water-dog. It is very cute or “carino” as the Italians would say it. Lagotoo Romagnoli are recognized for their wooly curls from head to tail, and fluffy eyebrows, beard, and whiskers. These adorable, teddy-looking dogs are very fierce and strong, have high energy levels, and are sure to bring light and excitement to our lives.

They are quite eager to please their owners, listen intently to what we are saying to them, and are super affectionate towards their families. They excelled at their job, but by the end of the 19th century, their reputation had fallen because the marshlands had drained, and their help was not needed anymore.

Later on, they found a new job, sniffing out truffles. They started striving at this job as well because of their highly developed noses. Their smart and interesting nature caused dog lovers worldwide to work together and prevent this lovely breed from going extinct, and the Lagotti became part of the Club Italiano Lagotto in 1988.

The Lagotto Romagnoli are among the friendliest dogs that are very loving and affectionate towards their family members and other people they know well. They have wooly curls all over their body and require grooming on a monthly basis. Their coat comes in many colors, including black, pied, brown, cream, fawn, sable, and white. They own triangular ears that stand up when they are vigilant and want to alert their family.

How to Groom a Lagotto Romagnolo

These adorable balls of fluff require clipping of their coats at least 4-5 times a year and monthly bathing. Some Lagotti may tend to mat, so grooming should be done about every two weeks. They are prone to ear infections because of excessive hair growth in their ears and built-up debris, so they should be cleaned regularly with effective cleaners. In addition, their teeth should be brushed every 3-4 days with good toothbrushes to prevent tooth decay.

The Lagotto Romagnoli are very active dogs that need physical and mental stimulation almost every day to be the best and healthiest versions of themselves. They are more suited to houses with big yards with fences so they can run around and fulfill their activity needs. They should walk or run at least 12 miles per week.
