Lhaffon is a tiny, adorable mix of the two cute dog breeds, Lhasa Apso and Brussels Griffon, and is normally a toy breed like its parents. It is more suitable for older children than younger ones because these dogs tend to snap in case they are aggravated or teased too much. However, the Lhaffon is a friendly dog and makes a good addition to the family.

Lhaffons normally have round, alert, and intelligent eyes that are usually dark brown, and they have a black nose. In addition, their coat is long and straight, with colors ranging from brindle, fawn, sable, brown, red, white, cream, gray, and black. However, a few Lhaffons have a rough and wiry coat, but it is silky like Lhasa Apso’s.

Lhaffon History

Lhaffon Dog Breed Information – All You Need To KnowThe Lhaffon is a new breed, and not much is known about it. However, we do know plenty about the parents. The Lhasa Apso is from Tibet and is amongst the oldest known dog breeds. It is believed to be bred from Tibetan Mountain Wolves and Tibetan Terriers, and these dogs used to be the guardians of monasteries and could only be afforded by royalty. Today, it is the 71st most popular dog breed in America.

The Brussels Griffon was born in the 1800s in Belgium and is bred from various breeds like English Toy Spaniel, Griffons d’Ecurie, Affenpinscher, Pug, and possibly the Yorkshire Terrier as well. This breed gained a lot of popularity back in 1997 after its appearance in the movie “As Good As It Gets,” but they were recognized by the American Kennel Club back in 1910. Today, it is the 97th most popular dog breed in America.

Lhaffon Characteristics

The Lhaffon is a cute toy breed that loves to be the center of attention and enjoys being in the spotlight. It should be supervised in the presence of young children because it doesn’t tolerate being teased too much and is likely to snap at children. A playpen can come in handy. Also, it is quite intelligent and protective of its family, and even though it looks small, it is incredibly strong and takes pride in its appearance! That’s a perfect example of “don’t judge a book by its cover” right here!

How Big Do Lhaffons Get

The height of a male Lhaffon is 8-11 inches, and it weighs between 11-20 pounds. On the other hand, a female Lhaffon grows 7-10 inches tall and weighs around 10-19 pounds. Their height is 6-7 inches at six months old, and their weight is between 8-9 pounds, and at twelve months old, they’re 7-9 inches tall and weigh around 11-13 pounds.

How Long Does A Lhaffon Live

The usual lifespan of a Lhaffon is 12-15 years. It’s normally a healthy dog but may develop brachycephalic syndrome because of its short muzzle. However, we can add more digits to this figure by taking good care of our dog, ensuring that it has a good diet, enough physical and mental exercise, and lots of love.

How Much Does A Lhaffon Cost

A Lhaffon has beautiful, expensive parents ranging between $1500-$2800, so we can expect their offspring to be around the same budget because it’s rare and has all the unique qualities of its parents. However, annual expenses may vary and include a leash, flea prevention, rubber toys, chew toys, etc.

Lhaffon Temperament/Personality

The Lhaffons commonly inherit the Lhasa Apso parent’s vigilant gene, and they make good watchdogs and are sure to alert their family members by barking if they sense danger. They are quite friendly in general but will not warm up to strangers until and unless they have proven themselves worthy! Great guard dog indeed.

They are pretty intelligent but independent-minded at the same time, so training them can be quite challenging. We should make sure that physical punishment is not used and make them feel comfortable, and use a positive attitude as they respond to that eagerly.

Caring For Lhaffon

Ensuring that our Lhaffons are given enough attention, and mental puzzles is a wonderful first step in taking care of them. We should keep in mind that if these dogs don’t have much to do, they’ll get bored and irritated and may develop unhealthy habits such as barking excessively or becoming destructive. In addition, we should give them good food, lots of love, and daily tasks.

Lhaffon Nutrition

Lhaffons are small-sized dogs that require only 1 cup of good quality dog food divided into 2-3 meals every day. We should ensure that they get enough physical activity to utilize that energy properly. After consulting a veterinarian, we can also give certain raw foods to our dogs to fulfill their energy requirements and bring diversity into their diet.

How To Groom A Lhaffon

The coat of the Lhaffon may need to be brushed to prevent matting, and we should strip their coats once in 3-4 months to remove dead hair. Bathing shouldn’t be done too often as it can lead to dry skin. Since their ears are triangular and flappy, we should regularly clean them and check for signs of ear infections to stay safe. In addition, we should brush their teeth with good toothpaste 2-3 times a week.

Lhaffon Activity Levels

The Lhaffons have a very low activity level and are not quite active, but we need to ensure that they get at least 30 minutes of exercise daily to stay healthy. They should have a walk mileage of about four weeks every week. They love playing fetch and are very good at agility training, and we should make sure they get enough exercise daily so that they don’t become bored or worrisome.

Caring For Lhaffon

Lhaffons are lovely and courageous dogs who, like all other dogs, will require positive reinforcement, a good diet, enough exercise, the right amount of attention and love, and mental challenges to stay happy and fit. They can be quite challenging in training times; therefore, early socialization and training should be done.

Lhaffon Health

Lhaffons have a short muzzle which can cause them to develop brachycephalic syndrome, a defect in the respiratory system, so our dogs can have breathing difficulty at some point in their lives. Hence, we should regularly check for related symptoms. Other concerns include Canine Hip Dysplasia, Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca, Exposure Keratopathy Syndrome, Congenital Heart Defect, and Intervertebral Disc Disease.
