The Lhasapoo is a cute, tiny, intelligent, and sweet dog breed that results from crossing the Lhasa Apso and the Poodle. It provides great company and loves to cuddle, so if one is lonely and looking for companionship, the Lhasapoos are a perfect choice! But that’s not all; even for families, this dog is a lovely pet.
It is normally a small-sized dog with a long coat with colors ranging from gray, brown, cream, and black. The Lhasapoos also go by the name “Lhasadoodles,” which I like more because it’s so catchy!

The Lhasapoo or Lhasadoodle is a designer breed and quite modern, so not much is known about its origin. But we can always look into the parent breeds’ histories to find out more about their resultant hybrid.
The Lhasa Apso came from Tibet and was quite a big deal back in the day. Actually, it was part of the noble families and was a guard dog of the monasteries there. It is believed that the Dalai Lama presented the Chinese nobility with the Lhasapoo to maintain good relations.
The Poodle has been known for centuries. There are many theories about the Poodle’s origin, but the Poodle we know today was recognized in Germany for its hunting abilities. Later on, it was used as a duck hunter and was also utilized as a show dog.
Lhasapoo Characteristics
As aforementioned, the Lhasapoos are an obedient, playful, intelligent, and small-sized breed of dogs, and they love spending time with their owners. They are friendly with other pets and children and look super cute when they try to run because of their short legs! Their coat is long and comes in many colors, such as gray, brown, black, and cream.
How Big Do Lhasapoos Get
A 6-month-old Lhasapoo (male and female) is about 8.5 inches tall and weighs 9-11 pounds. A year-old Lhasapoo is 9-10 inches tall and is 13-15 pounds heavy. And the average adult Lhasapoo (male) is 11-13 inches tall and weighs around 15-20 pounds, whereas the female is 9-11 inches tall and 10-15 pounds heavy.
How Long Does A Lhasapoo Live
The standard lifespan for a Lhasapoo is 12-15 years. It’s generally a healthy dog, and we can get it to live a full life by taking good care of it and providing it with lots of affection and care and healthy foods coined with enough exercise.
How Much Does A Lhasapoo Cost
The average price that we’d have to pay for a Lhasapoo goes up to $500-$1200. Medical expenses can go up to $500 annually and include necessities like pet insurance, vaccination shots, flea prevention, etc. The non-medical expenses are variable, and we can buy our dog a puzzle toy to keep it mentally challenged, a collar, license, interactive dog toys, food, etc.
Lhasapoo Temperament/Personality
The personality depends on which parent one’s dog takes after more. Usually, it’s the perfect combination of cute and cuddly, inherited traits of both parents! The Lhasadoodles are sweet little balls of energy and happiness. The Lhasa Apso used to be a guard dog, so it’s not out of the ordinary that one’s Lhasapoo barks as soon as it senses a change in surrounding energies. It is noteworthy that these lil dogs are likely to get separation anxiety, so we don’t want to own a Lhasapoo if we’re at work for longer periods and cannot give much attention to our dog.
Caring For Lhasapoo
The Lhasadoodles love to be showered with love and attention and prone to separation anxiety if left alone for too long. Therefore, we want to ensure that our dog gets all the love, and in return, the dog will give us all the love it can give! Also, we should make sure that we don’t leave a Lhasapoo with unattended small children who might pull on the dog’s lengthy hair, hurting it. And we never know; it might even snap!
Lhasapoo Nutrition
A diet consisting of all essential nutrients is good for our pets. We want to make sure that our dog doesn’t eat too much because the Lhasapoos are prone to obesity, so even if the dog makes sad puppy-eyes, we are not supposed to fall for it! The dog’s health is more important.
One cup of dry, good-quality dog food twice a day coupled with enough exercise is great! In addition, keep in mind that all dogs are not the same size, so their nutrient requirements will differ.
How to Groom a Lhasapoo
Depending on which parent one’s dog takes after more, one’s Lhasapoo is likely to have either straight, long, silky hair or curly and comparatively short hair. It will require daily brushing in case one decides not to clip the coat. In case the coat is clipped, weekly brushing will be required.
Make sure to brush its teeth 2-3 times a week and have its ears checked regularly because ear infections can be very dangerous if gone unchecked for too long. Other than that, clip the nails twice a month with an effective clipper.
Lhasapoo Activity Levels
The Lhasapoos are small in size, so they don’t normally require a lot of physical exertion. They would do well in small apartments, but it’s always best to remain active because due to their Poodle parent, the Lhasapoos are known to get destructive when they’re bored. So even a small part of the day spent playing and being active is more than enough!

Taking our dog out for short brisk walks and playtime with other dogs and making sure you give it loads of love, good food, the right amount of attention and affection is all our dog needs!
