The Magyar Agar is a tough, active, vigilant, and alert dog that also goes by the name Hungarian Greyhound because it comes from Hungary and has the appearance and stamina of the Greyhound. However, these dogs are not direct descendants of the Greyhounds, but are intelligent and hardworking like them.

It is a smart, well-mannered, playful, and loyal dog that loves to play and run around and explore. It is highly active and requires a notable amount of exercise daily; otherwise, it can become frustrated and quite a nuisance. It was initially bred to be a coursing and hunting dog, but lately, it’s a companion dog mainly.

Magyar Agar History

Magyar Agar Dog Breed Information – All You Need To KnowThe Magyar Agars are thought to have been over eleven hundred years old, but no solid proof is available to back this up. Archaeologists have found evidence of these dogs in the Carpathian Mountain Range. The Magyar Agars came over a thousand years ago and were substantially used in Hajdu-Bihar and Somogy. It is noteworthy that the word “agar” means “gaze hound” or “wind hound,” and “Magyar” means “Hungary” in the Hungarian language. So basically, the name means Hungarian Gaze/Wind Hound!
