The Mucuchies dog breed is one of the rarest breeds in existence. They were first documented by Spanish conquistadors when they journeyed up Venezuela’s mountain and began breeding with local dogs that had traveled there at some point before 1800 CE. By 1960 these animals numbered less than five hundred – but fortunately, this soon increased.

The Venezuelan government has been working to re-establish the national dog breed, almost extinct. The other countries in South America are helping Venezuela’s efforts by donating some of their dogs with the rare bloodline to create a new colony and save these beautiful animals from extinction.

Mucuchies History

Mucuchies Dog Breed Information All You Need To KnowMucuchies has vague origins, but it traces back to the 1800s. It was descended from the dogs like Pyrenean Mastiffs, Atlas Ovejero, Spanish, Algerian dogs, and the Spanish brought to Venezuela. After the Spanish settled here, they started interbreeding their dogs which produced Mucuchies. The breeding may have been influenced by mastiffs later in history because they were very prevalent. Also, the dog might have traces of a native Venezuelan breed in its lineage.

By the mid-1900s, this breed became popular throughout the Venezuela Andes and beyond, especially in Caracas but unfortunately encountered degeneration after that. Mucuchies were nearly extinct when a group of breeders got together in 1961 and formed this dog’s club, which stabilized the breed’s standards. Interestingly it was designated to be the national dog of Venezuela in 1964.

Still, if they’re isolated too often, these social dogs may develop separation anxiety or even become aggressive due to boredom.

Although these dogs are naturally intelligent creatures with an innate sense for protecting those they love best, socialization training during puppyhood is essential to keep them from being overprotective of children or knocking them down in enthusiasm when playing together.

This intelligent puppy will keep you on your toes with its playful nature while requiring plenty of physical activity.

They can meet all their needs in Dog Playpen, where they’ll have room enough to run around and jump too. Mucuchies are very versatile and can live in any environment. They do well in apartments, condos, or family homes with a fenced yard as long as it is either urban or rural.

Mucuchies are known for their health, but some diagnoses can come up, such as hips dysplasia and bloat. The good news is these are minor concerns that can be relieved easily with vet visits. There is no need to worry about any major problems because this breed usually stays healthy.

It would be best if you did not forget to take them out for at least 40 minutes walks each day, but even better is 60 minutes of walk. If they are in the house all of the time, it can lead to obesity which puts their life expectancy shorter and makes joint pain more likely.
