Pom-Kee History

Pom Kee Dog Breed Information All You Need To KnowThe Pom-Kee is a hybrid of Keeshond and a Pomeranian, the smallest member of the Spitz family of dogs. Pomeranian originated in Pomerania (now known as Germany and Poland). Martin Luther, Michelangelo, and Mozart were among the owners of Pomeranians. Due to its fluffy and cute looks, this dog was a favorite companion of nobles and royals. Queen Victoria also kept them as companions and bred them down in size. In 1909 the AKC registered this breed officially.

In contrast, the Keeshond is a medium-sized dog that originated in Holland in the 18th Century. It traveled through the canals and rivers of the Netherlands in barges. For this reason, it was known as the Dutch Barge Dog. During the French Revolution, it became the symbol of the Patriot faction in the Netherlands. A man named Kees de Gyselaer was the leader of the Dutch Patriot party, and he owned a dog. This dog was named after its breeder “Kees” combined with the word hound, and this was where the Keeshond first got its name.
