The Poo-Shi (An absolutely adorable name) is a splendid cross between the Poodle and the Shih-Tzu. The Poo-Shi is also known as the Shih-Poo. Unfortunately, there is currently no credible info about the conception and promotion of this breed.

The reason for this mysteriousness can be correlated to the rise of designer dogs in the past century. Nevertheless, we will, to the best of our abilities, attempt to understand the Poo-Shi. The approach to understanding this breed is more rational and standardized.

Poo-Shi History

Poo Shi Dog Breed Information All You Need To KnowDue to the lack of knowledge on this breed, we have to analyze the Poo-Shi differently. The Poodle of the Poo-Shi is a German breed. Despite its modern designer look, the Poo-Shi was more of a hunter originally. It was used to hunt Water Fowl. The breed developed after its adoption by France. Currently, we have two versions of the Poodle, the Miniature and the Standard Poodle.

Comparing the Poodle to the Shih-Tzu, we realize that the Shih-Tzu has always been a companion dog. The Shih-Tzu has furthermore been one of the most important dogs in China. It was revered by monks and emperors alike. The people also loved it, and some even worshipped it. From this data, we can only conclude that perhaps the Poo-Shi was created as a bid to get both the appearance of the Shih-Tzu and the resourcefulness of the Poodle.

Poo-Shi Characteristics

What will the Poo-Shi look like? We can’t give you an accurate answer to this question either. We only know that it will take after one of its parents. The coat should, in general, be medium length to slightly longer. The colors will remain between Black, Brown, White, and Grey. The Poo-Shi may have the snub nose of the Shih-Tzu. Generally, the Poo-Shi should also be small in size.

How Big do Poo-Shi Get

The Poo-Shi is an adorable doggie with adorable proportions. The height for the Poo-Shi is 8 to 13 inches. You can carry about two Poo-Shi’s in your arms quite easily. The weight for the Poo-Shi commonly remains between 13 to 20 lbs. The weight should generally be maintained between this range if you don’t want health problems for the Poo-Shi.

How Long Does Poo-Shi Live

The Poo-Shi will usually live between 12 and 16 years of age. This lifespan can be attributed to the Shih-Tzu side of its genes. You can ensure the longevity of the Poo-Shi by taking care of its health. More information about this is available in the health and caring section.

How Much Does a Poo-Shi Cost

Considering the prices of other Poodle mixes and Shih-Tzu mixes, we can get an accurate price range for the Poo-Shi. Typically the initial price of the Poo-Shi should remain between 500 dollars and 1100 dollars. The medical bills plus dietary bills, later on, should amount to about 1100 to 1400 dollars.

Poo-Shi Temperament/Personality

The Poo-Shi has royal blood running through its veins. It will be a joy to have in the family. It generally shouldn’t be much of a barker (Beter Barker; that’s a little spiderman joke!). Its silent nature makes it one of the best doggies for apartment life. It loves being around kids and different pets. With a bit of socialization and careful introductions, it can befriend almost anyone.

Training the Poo-Shi is a piece of cake. You can easily get it to learn the basics and even some advanced tricks. However, if you do find training it hard, then use a Dog Training Book. You may even use some Dog Training Treats to make the deal even sweeter.

Caring for Poo-Shi

Doggies were created in general to be happy; keeping it sad is the highest degree of crime. This section will allow you to make decisions that will help you in avoiding this crime. Nothing matters more than your doggies’ happiness, right?

Poo-Shi Nutrition

The Poo-Shi won’t need any more than one cup of healthy dog food. You should use the Standard US cup measurement for its dietary volume. Try not to exceed the daily volume because obesity is not kind to this breed. If you do feed it more, then change the daily exercise accordingly.

How to Groom a Poo-Shi

Due to the length of the Poo-Shi’s coat, it will have to be brushed frequently. How frequently? Every day is where the game is at. You should also bathe it, but only when it needs one. Frequent bathing will destroy its skin. Next, you should brush its teeth to give it gum protection. The final thing is cutting its nails when they grow long enough to cause problems.

Poo-Shi Activity Levels

Half an hour of exercise should be more than enough for the Poo-Shi’s health. You should divide the daily exercise into equal portions of drills and games. Both of these should be enough for tapping into any pent-up energy.

Caring for Poo-Shi

The first step of caring for the Poo-Shi is saving it from extreme weather. You can get it Cooling Pads for Dogs in the summer. For winters, we recommend getting a Dog Heating Pad. Additionally, you can even get a Cooling Vest for Dogs and a Dog Sweater. Of course, you can also knit a sweater for it, but why go through all that tortuous work.  You can also ensure the health of your buddy by keeping its ears clean.

Poo-Shi Health

The Poo-Shi is a magnet for medical conditions. Why? Small size and mixed genes just don’t work out for most breeds. The general conditions that affect the Poo-Shi include Atopic Dermatitis, Cleft Palate, Urolithiasis, and Sebaceous Adenitis. There are at least ten more conditions that are more than likely to affect your good doggie.

You can avoid a majority of these conditions unless they are congenital disabilities. The only thing that you have to do is pay attention. Pay attention to what? Pay attention to the Poo-Shi’s diet. Pay attention to its behavior. Look for signs of abnormal fatigue, blotches, fever, or anything off. You have to be diligent and active. Please take it to the vet at least once per month. A vet is the only person who can give you professional advice and treatment.
