From the land that gave us PewDiePie and good sweets, we have another contribution. The Schillerstovare is a canine from Sweden and the Southern Parts of Germany. Some of the more experienced hunters and dog owners may know it by a slightly different name, such as the Schiller Hound or the Schiller Bracke.

Schillerstovare History

The history of the Schillerstovare is marred with confusion. People claim that it has ancient origins, but expert opinions beg to differ. The breed was developed close to the 19^th Century. The origins of this breed can be traced to two individuals named Per Schiller and Doctor Adolf. Mr. Schiller wanted to create an efficient Hunting breed by using the Stovare dog as a base. The duo introduced the English Foxhound genes to create the earliest ancestors of the Schillerstovare.

Later on, they added different German/Swedish Hound blood into the mix. English Harrier genes were the last to be crossbred, creating the current version of the Schillerstovare. The breed was named after Per Schiller. It was also accepted by the SKC in 1913. Why wouldn’t they? The founder of the Swedish Kennel Club was Doctor Adolf. The standards for this canine were written in 1997.

Schillerstovare Characteristics

The Schillerstovare has a standardized appearance. It should be medium-sized and square in appearance. The muscle density of the Schillerstovare is classified as lean. It has a hunting background, so that much is to be expected. The Schillerstovare will also have oval, long and drooping ears. The eyes of the Schillerstovare are also oval-shaped in their long heads. The muzzle of the Schillerstovare should be slightly tapered, with a black nose. The coat of the Schillerstovare is usually short but dense. Colors for the coat include a combination of Black, Brown, and White.  

How Big do Schillerstovare Get

The Schillerstovare is a medium-sized dog with lean muscles. The height of the male Schillerstovare remains between 21 and 24 inches. The weight range for the males is 40 to 55 lbs. The females have a height range of 19 to 22 inches, while the weight remains between 40 to 55 lbs, just like the males.

How Long Does Schillerstovare Live

The lifespan of the Schillerstovare should remain close to 13 years. In the worst case, the lifespan of the Schillerstovare can contract by at least 6 years. If you give it the right routines and food, you can expand its lifespan by a few years. However, you shouldn’t expect the lifespan to exceed 16 years. At most, the lifespan should be close to 15 years.

Normally Hounds have a high price attached to them. This isn’t the case for the Schillerstovare. It has an extremely low price. You can find a dog breed for as low as 300 dollars. The Schillerstovare is a multi-talented dog. It has the wit and sensibility for both on-field and off fieldwork. You won’t experience any problems with this doggie when it comes to housekeeping. It is a medium-sized dog and needs between two to three cups of food per day. You can give it more, but we wouldn’t recommend giving it more. How to Groom a Schillerstovare

The Schillerstovare has a short coat that doesn’t shed much. Usually, brushing the coat three times per week should be enough. As for the cleanliness of the coat, you can clean it with a wet clothe. You won’t have to bathe it often. Normally bathe it on a per need basis. Whenever you bathe it, use a Dog Shampoo. You should also try to keep its nails in the optimal range. The Schillerstovare is considered a highly active dog. It will grow restless and self-destructive if you don’t deplete its energy levels. Normally it will need about an hour of activity per day. Another concern with the Schillerstovare is that it needs open space. Apartments aren’t really meant for this dog. However, since you are meant to keep it in a yard or open space, you can’t just leave it at the mercy of the elements. Instead, you can either build a house for your doggie or buy a Dog House. Considering the history of the Schillerstovare, we can understand how it manages to remain this healthy. It was spared from the ravages of war and extinction due to its nativity in a secluded area. There are no foreign genes in its body. Consequently, it has no prominent conditions or health concerns. Even its body size is moderate and doesn’t allow any skeletal or joint conditions to develop.

Nevertheless, being too careless could lead to problems. You will have to take your doggie to the vet’s office at least once per month. Usually, X-Rays and Blood Works should allow your doggie to understand any hidden conditions.
