The Schnauffen is a family-friendly dog with an inquisitive nature. You may find it following you around wherever you go. It has the combined clinginess of the Affenpinscher and the Miniature Schnauzer. Its energetic nature makes it a good choice for outgoing people as well.
There are little to no flaws in the personality of this doggie. However, there are some other concerns related to its lifestyle that need to be understood and kept in mind.
Schnauffen History
The main problem with modern designer dogs is the lack of information usually attributed to them. In these tiring and confusing cases, we have to resort to understanding them indirectly. We do this by understanding the history of their parents. In the Schnauffen’s case, both parents are German in origin. Coincidentally, the initial purpose of both canines is also common. Both the Affenpinscher and the Schnauzer were rat exterminating dogs.
The Miniature Schnauzer was more of a farm dog and companion dog from the beginning. The Affenpinscher, however, developed into a companion dog later on. Currently, both breeds are technically companion dogs since the Rat Extermination jobs went out the window a few decades ago. According to our understanding, the Schnauffen was developed somewhere in the past few decades, most probably close to the 1980s. The reason for its development is unknown, but the most probable reason is companionship.
Schnauffen Characteristics
The Schnauffen has a varying appearance. However, there are a few things that remain consistent. The first is its size. The Schnauffen should be a small dog, perfect for naps in your lap. Another recurring characteristic is its medium-length coat, usually of Brown, Black, or Gray color. The eyes of the Schnauffen should be beady like the Schnauzer. The Schnauffen may also inherit the Miniature Schnauzer’s beard in some cases.
How Big do Schnauffen Get
The Schnauffen is a tiny dog, as explained above. The males will usually be 12 to 14 inches tall, with a meager weight ranging between 10 to 15 lbs. The females have a height range between 10 and 12 inches. Consequently, the weight range for the females is also smaller compared to the males. Ideally, the female Schnauffens weight should remain between 7 and 12 lbs.
How Long Does Schnauffen Live
Currently, we cannot say for certain how long the Schnauffen will live. We can only give you a rough range of its possible lifespan. According to the lifespans of its parents, we believe that the Schnauffen should live between 10 and 14 years of age. The healthier its lifestyle is, the more chances it has of living close to the 14-year age limit.
How Much Does a Schnauffen Cost
Currently, the cost of the Schnauffen has not been documented. Even if we want to document its cost, we can’t. There aren’t any credible markets that have this breed. However, both parent breeds are readily available. Considering that someone probably has this doggie, but they just don’t know about it. The price can be anywhere between 200 and 800 dollars.
Schnauffen Temperament/Personality
Compared to some of the other Schnauzer mix dogs, the Schnauffen is exceptionally brilliant. It can learn new tricks quickly, especially with a bit of encouragement. It can also understand basic commands from an early age if you train it properly. You can start training it from the 8-week to 10-week period. It may exhibit some stubbornness, but a sweet Dog Training Treat should be enough to take care of it.
When it comes to coexistence, the Schnauffen has no problems with anyone. The Schnauffen will rarely be aggressive to anyone. However, its small size may make bigger dogs pick on it. Therefore, you have to supervise its interactions. Socialize it from a young age so that shyness and social anxiety do not develop.
Caring for Schnauffen
There are a certain set of things that we believe can make your doggie’s life more bearable. The following section will list all of these things in the hopes that you can take advantage of them.
Schnauffen Nutrition
The Schnauffen is a small dog and doesn’t need more than one cup every day. You can further divide the cup of daily food into two or more parts. For example, you can feed it one portion of the food in the morning and the other in the evening. You will most likely need a Dog Bowl and Dog Food Containers to keep its food in one place.
How to Groom a Schnauffen
The Schnauffen needs to have its thick, luscious coat brushed at least every day. For people who hate repeating the same things every day, this can be a bit hectic. However, if at any point you feel discouraged, then remember, you’re doing it for the sake of your doggie. You will also have to bathe the Schnauffen at least once per month. Also, thoroughly dry your doggie whenever it gets wet. You don’t want infections and pains seizing your doggie. Finally, for the sake of your doggie’s health, please keep its nails short.
Schnauffen Activity Levels
By human standards, the Schnauffen needs about 40 to 50 minutes of daily activity. However, it is interesting to note that the activity needed is mild. Why is it interesting? Other Affenpinscher mixes need a slightly vigorous routine. However, the Schnauffen can make do with simple games and walks.
Caring for Schnauffen
The foremost problem with keeping doggies also happens to be the smelliest one. You probably know where we are going with this. Before you have your doggie trained, you may find some smelly pieces here and there. We know how hard getting rid of them is. Since we have all been through the same situations (More or less), it is only right if we share our solutions.
What helped us in these sticky situations were Dog Potty Pads. Another convenient thing that you should use is a Pooper Scooper. The latter device’s name is pretty much self-explanatory. No more smelly situations, no more nightmares.
Schnauffen Health
The health of the Schnauffen isn’t something that we would say is good news. It has a lot of weak links in its immunity and physicality. Some of the conditions that this doggie may face include Distichiasis, Entropion, PRA, and Myotonia. For a mixed breed canine, those aren’t the best of odds. It is, however, healthier compared to other Schnauzer mixes.
Nevertheless, at least one weekly visit to the vet is necessary. In addition, you will have to be careful about how you arrange its activity and diet. Wrong components in either could lead to damage that could destroy and severely hinder its chances of living a long life.
