The Golden Retriever & The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier have a lot in common, and the Soft Coated Golden is no exception. The Golden Retriever’s origins are a little hazy.

Dudley Marjoribanks is said to have gotten the single golden dog from a batch of black puppies in the Highland of Scotland circa 1840. He began breeding yellow dogs and founded the Golden Retriever Foundation. Because of the various regional geography at the time, hunters needed a dog that might recover prey on both land & water.

During the nineteenth century, the Golden Retriever was bred in Scotland as a gun dog that could easily retrieve ducks. The American Breed Standard formally recognized the Golden Retriever in 1925, and it was placed in the Sporting Group.

It has become a popular option as a service dog, hunting dog, guide dog, tracker, & search and rescue canine.

The Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier is a breed that has been bred in Ireland for over 200 years. It is a farm dog that may be used for various tasks.

The Wheaten is a companion who hunts, herds, watches cattle, and hunts pests. As the nobility never owned it, the tenacious Terrier was known as a poor man’s Irish Wolfhound. Only nobles or gentry could lawfully possess a hunting hound above 19 inches in height at the withers and had a long tail in the past.

A charge was imposed on anybody who had a dog that met those requirements but was not a member of the aristocracy. Common folk ensured the Wheaten remained short and had a docked tail to avoid the hefty fee.

The American Breed Standards recognized the breed in 1973 and placed it in the Terrier Group.

The Soft Coated Golden Retriever is similar to the Golden Retriever, but his fur is softer and sheds very little. Most people believe that this dog must be golden in color because of his parents. However, he is usually black when firstborn, but his fur lightens as he develops.

When the puppy reaches adulthood, the coat may change to a rich brown and remain black. The fur is dense, thick, and water-resistant. His ears are floppy, and he has the face of a Golden Retriever.

The dog’s physique is muscular and stocky. His feet have some webbing on them, allowing him to swim easily.
