The Spanador is a hybrid between a purebred Labrador Retriever and an American Cocker Spaniel. It is extremely devoted and loving, as well as clever and lively.

It’s a novel hybrid quickly gaining popularity as a family puppy & friend. The Spanador blends the Labrador’s gentle, loving disposition with the smaller, more beautiful Cocker Spaniel to create a smaller dog ideal for families.

The combination of good appearance and kind nature makes for a very appealing dog.

Spanador History

Spanador Information Everything You Need To KnowLet’s look at the parent dogs’ backgrounds to see what traits will be passed down to the Spanador. In 1620, the Pilgrim Fathers brought the first Cocker Spaniel to America aboard the Mayflower. For the new settlers, dogs were introduced as both pet & working dogs.

They were excellent at retrieving water birds for the hunter and quickly became a trusted friend. As settlers flocked to America, these canines aided them in exploring and exploiting the new territory. In the nineteenth century, an American Cocker Spaniel was created from English Cocker Spaniel and was initially just different in size since it was a smaller dog.

The hardworking American Cocker Spaniel had been an excellent hunting dog, capable of working in all sorts of terrain and weather. They were masters at clearing out and returning game with a delicate tongue that did not harm it.

They are well-known for their agility, tracking, retrieving, watchdog, and competitive obedience talents. The Labrador Retriever, or Lab as they are fondly called, is a breed that originated on the Canadian island of Newfoundland.

They were commonly utilized to aid fishermen in retrieving fish that had gotten away from hooks & towing lines, swimming in the cold waters to help.

After the country’s capital, they were first known as the St. John’s dog, and they quickly became wonderful companions & service dogs for their masters. Unfortunately, the breed died out in Newfoundland due to government limitations and tax rules that only permitted one dog per household and heavily taxed female dogs.

Therefore female puppies were removed from the litter. In 1917, the American Breed Standards recognized the breed, and the Agency’s popularity skyrocketed. After WWII, the Labrador Retriever became the most popular dog listed with the AKC, and in 1991, the Lab became the most famous dog recognized with the AKC. They have kept that status to this day.

The Labrador is used for drug & bomb detecting, search and rescue, rehabilitation, handicapped assistance, and hunting retrievers. This beloved and faithful animal is still going strong and makes an excellent companion.

Spanador Characteristics

The Spanador is a handsome dog with a sturdy but athletic physique, powerful legs, and huge padded paws. The wedge-shaped head and sharp nose are supported by a powerful neck that is deep and broad.

The ears are positioned high but droop over to dangle across the part of the face, and the top part is somewhat rounded. The ears may be fringed because of the American Cocker Spaniel’s influence. The Spanador is a decent size for a family companion, somewhat smaller than the normal Labrador Retriever.

Spanador Personality/ Temperament

The Spanador has an unmistakable love for life. Whether you’re going on a hike or simply putting out the trash, everything you do together should be heartily accepted. For these busy canines, life is an adventure, & they don’t want to skip out on any of it.

They will snuggle up on your lap like a puppy & refuse to move since they like being with you. They will still attempt to crawl onto your lap as they grow older, but it’s difficult to say no to such a sweet puppy.

They crave attention and will go to great lengths to obtain it. They adjust well to life in the country or the city, especially if you have a garden; this is the ideal lifestyle. As they may become sidetracked and stray away, ensure the gate is secure. They can adapt to a wide range of temperatures and settings, as long as you seem to be present. When selecting a puppy, make an effort to meet the parents.

Indeed it’s much better if the American Cocker Spaniel is an outgoing, friendly dog. Some Spaniels have an aggressive tendency, but the Labrador influence typically smooths it out.

Spanador Nutrition

A Spandor is a big dog that requires 3.5 cups of high-protein and carbohydrate dog food.

How Do You Groom A Spanador?

Since the Spanador has a relatively longer coat, it will need to be brushed at least once a week during the winter and the summer. Using a comb to remove extra hair and avoid matting is good. As a present from the American Cocker Spaniel father, your Spanador may have long hair or fringe around the legs, ears, and chest. To avoid knots, comb or brush them. This dog only needs a wash when it is necessary. Because these dogs often have dry, itchy skin, use a dog shampoo that is gentler on their skin.

Brushing their teeth two to three times a day is recommended. Finish with a nail clip if necessary, and don’t forget to compliment them on their excellent care.

Spanador Activity Levels

The Spanador, especially when young, is a very energetic dog. They are excited about everything, including picking up the newspaper outside. These dogs are full of life, and it shows. They’ll love to accompany you on your running or walking adventures, but keep them on a leash because they’re curious and will ignore your calls if they’re not restricted.

Spanador Health Concerns

In general, the Spandor is a small and healthy breed. They come from a long line of ancestors.

Even so, take them to the clinic for annual inspections to make sure that any potential health issues are identified early.
