A Taigan has been an integral component of the nomadic lifestyle of the Kyrgyz people for millennia. Prolific hunters, the Taigan maintained meat on the table, and their prey’s pelts either were sold or traded for other items.

This dog has a majestic and aristocratic demeanor and a laser-like intensity on the hunt. Dogs at home, however, tend to be docile and respectful companions, who form tight bonds with their owners.

You may have fun with the kids and go on family outings, and they will not put up with harsh treatment or punishment.

The Taigan is best maintained in the countryside, where they can gallop about and burn off most of their excess energy. When it comes to strangers, the Taigan might be a little apprehensive, but it isn’t hostile.

They get along well with other canines, but smaller pets might be a threat to their survival.

If you lead an active lifestyle and have enough space for a dog like this one, you should think about getting one. Dogs are not suitable to live in an apartment, and even living in a city might be problematic for this extremely active dog.

Taigan History

Taigan Information 286x176The Taigan is an ancient Asian breed that is also known as the Kyrgyzdyn Taighany.

These dogs originated in Kyrgyzstan’s mountainous regions and are mostly found in the Tien Shan area.

Taigans were created for severe conditions and may live up to 2,000–4,000 meters above sea level.

Roe deer, foxes, badgers, & wolves are frequently hunted with them. Occasionally, they also collaborate with trained birds of prey, such as the Golden Eagle.

Taigans have been used as hunters in Russia since the 1980s, and their excellent visual acuity, perseverance, & sense of smell enable them to do so.

Unfortunately, the breed is currently unrecognized by the FCI and major breed groups.

Taigan Characteristics

To look at, the Taigan is regal and dignified, with an elegant classical style to it.

It has a thick neck that supports its large wedge-shaped head, which is slender but robust, and a thick plush coat that develops an undercoat during the winter.

Oval brown or green eyes, black glossy nose, and powerful white teeth that join in a scissor bite create an appealing face with a serene, even noble, look.

Well-formed shoulders lead to a large chest, which continues to a slender but strong body that culminates in a spear tail with a ring shape at the end.

The lengthier hair on the Taigan’s earlobes, thighs, and shins serve as a kind of armor. Protective footwear is provided by the thick, thin hair on its feet in rough environments.

However, they may be found in a variety of different colors, including black, brown, grey, white, and yellow.

In the Taigan’s name, which means eternal, inexhaustible, and impenetrable, this amazing dog is properly described.

How Big Can A Taigan Get?

A Tigan is between 24-28 inches tall & weighs 35 -55lbs.

How Long Can A Taigan Live?

The Average Lifespan of a Tigan is between 10-12 years, which depends upon the health of a dog.

How Much Does A Taigan Cost?

A Tigan is not a very expensive dog. It costs between $400 to $1000. That’s just for the puppy; it doesn’t cover things like a kennel, vaccinations, vet appointments, a leash, food, water bowls, etc.

Of fact, the price of your Taigan might be significantly more or lower than this.

You might easily pay $800 for a truly exceptional specimen. Similarly, you might be able to get one for a few hundred dollars near you.

Taigan Personality/Temperament

Taigans are well-balanced and self-sufficient dogs. But, even to those they know, they have a reputation for being distant. They are, nonetheless, devoted and kind to their family.

These perceptive pups adapt fast to changes in their surroundings and get along well with other canines. They may hunt cats because of their sighthound tendencies.

Taigan Nutrition

As a very active breed, buying high-quality dog food with such a high protein content can aid in the development of robust muscles in your Taigan.

It’s up to you whether you give dry kibble, wet food, a combination of the two (or a raw food diet), and a Taigan will thrive on any of them.

Treats are a great way to keep your dog motivated throughout exercise, but make sure to account for them when calculating your dog’s daily ratio.

Letting your Taigan gain too much weight might put additional strain on their long backs, increasing the chance of injury.

A Taigan only needs 3.5 cups of dog food each day, and it should be high in protein and carbs.

How Do You Groom A Taigan?

Brushing this breed’s coat once a week with a Brush is enough to keep it free of loose hair and dirt. However, you may need to comb your Taigan more frequently once they shed their winter undercoat.

In addition to brushing, every dog’s grooming regimen should include clipping nails, cleaning ears, & brushing teeth, regardless of breed.

Taigan Activity Level

A Taigan is a dog with a high level of energy and an unrelenting dedication to the pursuit of its prey. Apartment life is out of the question for them, and sometimes even living in a city is suspect.

These dogs require a lot of space to move about and explore the area, so they’re great for hunters or hikers who tackle more difficult terrain than many of their contemporaries.

Cross-country, the Taigan is unmatched, and it does well in rough terrain.

This dog is highly regarded by the natives of its country due to its keen vision and outstanding sense of smell.

Make sure you offer this dog a lot of things to do, since they like being busy and forming close relationships with their owners and families.

But it isn’t all work and also no enjoyment for them! Even the most diligent Taigan enjoys a little downtime to have fun!

Tigan Health Concerns

When shopping for a dog, one of the most important factors to consider is the dog’s health. Purebred dogs are often regarded as less healthy than hybrid breed dogs, and they are more prone to health problems.

The Taigan, on the other hand, is an exception. This breed is quite healthy, with minimal health issues to be concerned about. Apart from elbow & hip dysplasia, this breed does not suffer from any other diseases.
