During Ottoman Empire in the 15th & 16th centuries, it is thought that the Spanish & Portuguese removed part of the Tarsus Catalburun from Turkey. In his country, he is known as the catalburun, which means fork-nose. He is a hunting breed that is mostly found in Mersin.

The Tarsus Catalburun is a one-of-a-kind creation. He has a split nose, also known as a double nose. Only three breeds have been identified as having this trait. His coat is short, flat, and rigid to the touch.

Because there is no official breed standard for the Tarsus Catalburun, the breed can have a wide range of appearances. He has broad, long ears which hang down and is similar in appearance to other pointer breeds.
