Toxirn, a designer dog, is a mixture of two breeds. The dog is friendly and confident and forms a strong bond with the owner. However, the dog can be aggressive towards strangers.

In this article, we will touch upon the information related to Toxirn, such as its size, temperament, diet, etc.

Toxirn’s History

Toxirn Information Everything You Need To KnowThe Toxirn is a mix of the Chihuahua and Cairn Terrier. The breed is a companion dog and is perfectly suited for families. However, since the Toxirn is a designer dog, little is known about it. We know that the Cairn terrier was developed in Scotland for hunting purposes.

In 1938, the popularity of the Cairn terrier exploded, as the dog appeared in the movie: The Wizard of Oz as a pet of the character Dorothy. The dog has also appeared in the sitcom: I Love Lucy. The Chihuahua has been nicknamed ‘The Dragon Dog.’

The Chihuahua has been around for over a thousand years and was bred in Mexico and the United States. The Chihuahua was believed to have been bred and owned by the Toltec civilization. The Aztecs bred the Chihuahua for food.

Toxirn Characteristics

The Toxirn is an adorable breed with a bristle and wiry short coat. The hair typically stands out and gives the dog a bumpy appearance. The color of the coat is usually black, grey, or tan.

The nose is shaped like a button and is black. The eyes are dark, and the tiny ears have a pricked shape. The body is muscular and firm, and while the Toxirn is small in stature, it is not a frail dog.

How Big Can A Toxirn Get?

The average height for a Toxirn is:

  • Male: 8 to 10 inches (21 to 25 cm).
  • Female: 8 to 9 inches (20 – 23 cm).

Typically the Toxirn weighs:

  • Male: 9 pounds (4.5 kilos)
  • Female: 8 pounds (3.5 kilos)

How Long Can A Toxirn Live?

The average lifespan of a Toxirn is 12 to 15 years.

How Much Does A Toxirn Cost?

Typically, the price of a Toxirn is around $ 500 to 1000. The price varies, though, depending on the pedigree and the breeder.

Toxirn Personality/Temperament

The Toxirn is spunky and usually doesn’t realize that it is small in size. The dog considers himself king and doesn’t back down from any challenge. The Toxirn loves playing and being around kids. The breed also develops a strong bond with the owner and his family.

The size makes the Toxirn ideal for families and the dog breed is always ready for a quick game of fetch or go for a walk. The Toxirn has a happy character and loves to enjoy life. Toxirns usually have no problem getting along with other pets, but you need to supervise them, especially when the dog is around rats.

Toxirn’s Nutrition

The Toxirn requires a high-quality variety of dry dog food. You should avoid feeding the dog foods such as soy, wheat, and corn. Food that comes with BHT and BHA preservatives should also be avoided. Instead, feed the dog Jerky treats for dogs and Dr. Tim’s dog food.

However, you need to watch the quantity of food, as the Toxirn is prone to gaining weight and becoming obese. ½ to 1 cup of dog food is good enough for the dog breed.

How Do You Groom A Toxirn?

The coat of the Toxirn is almost maintenance-free, and you will only need to brush it occasionally. The fur does not grow, so no clipping is required. While the toenails of the Toxirn wear down when it runs, some owners use nail clippers for dogs to clip the nails regularly.

The debris may sometimes accumulate in the ears, so you should clean them regularly. Cleaning the ears once a week clears out all the debris. You can also use dog ear cleaners to clean the ears. The dog only requires a bath every month or two to remove the smell.

Activity Levels of the Toxirn

The Toxirn is a combo of activity and attitude. The dog is always willing to go for a jog or a walk. The Toxirn enjoys snuggles and doesn’t mind curling up in the owner’s lap. The breed’s versatility makes it perfect for apartments, where outdoor exercises are limited. The Toxirn likes learning new tricks and is a highly intelligent animal.

Health Concerns for Toxirn

Like other crossbreeds or designer dogs, the Toxirn may inherit a few health conditions from its parents. These are the health issues that are common in the Toxirn dog breed:

  • Entropion
  • Perianal Fistulas
  • Diabetes
  • Hypothyroidism

Let’s briefly discuss each health issue:

Entropion is a health condition commonly found in dogs, in which the eyelids turn inwards. This causes the surrounding hair and eyelashes to rub against the cornea, a sensitive area. The upper/lower eyelids of both eyes can be affected by Entronopion. Entropion irritates the eyes and, if left untreated, can cause corneal ulceration.

Perianal Fistulas

Perinatal Fistula is a type of tunnel-like formation in the tissues and skin that surrounds the anal in dogs. The severity of the lesion varies, but the condition first appears in the form of tiny holes in the skin. The holes may become deeper and wider with time and may surround the entire area of the anus.

Perianal Fistulas typically cause discomfort and severe pain in dogs and, if left untreated, can reduce the dog’s quality of life.

Dogs diagnosed with diabetes usually require lifelong care such as special treatment, a good fitness regime, and insulin injections. The key to managing the dog’s diabetes is to keep the sugar level normal. Avoid too low or too high blood sugar levels as they can be life-threatening.

Hypothyroidism is a thyroid condition and is a common endocrine disorder in canines. Hypothyroidism causes all the functions in the body to slow down. Some signs of Hypothyroidism are skin and hair coat changes, weight gain, and lethargy.
