Worgi History

Worgi Information 2560x1920A Welsh Corgi crossed with the Welsh Sheepdog produces the Worgi, a mixed breed dog. The Corgi is a Welsh dog breed that originated in Pembrokeshire.

The Corgi’s history is shrouded in mystery, which has led to the creation of legends. According to Welsh folklore, the Corgi originated among the hideaways of fairies & elves.

Two children discovered several Corgi pups one day. They mistook them for foxes, but they saw something strange about them and decided to take the pups with them.

They recognized the dogs and accepted them as a present from the fairies. These canines became devoted pets while also assisting with the livestock.

Aside from this mythology, the Welsh Corgi is said to be derived from the Vallhund. The dogs were used to protect cattle in Sweden. The Vallhunds came to Wales with the Vikings in the ninth and tenth centuries.

Another popular idea would be that the Corgi is descended from dogs brought to Wales by Flemish weavers in the twelfth century. In the 1920s, the United Breed Standards recognized the Corgi.

The breed was separated into two groups in 1934: Pembroke & Cardigan. The American Breed Standards recognized the breed Pembroke Welsh Corgi in 1934.

Queen Elizabeth is well-known for her love of the breed, having received her first Corgi as a present from her father in 1933. The Welsh Sheepdog, often known as the Welsh Collie, first arose in the nineteenth century.

Working Collies were crossed with local Welsh dogs to create the breed. Aside from that, nothing is known about the origins of this breed.

Welsh Sheepdogs are said to be connected to a Gellgi or “Covert Hounds,” as well as a hybrid between the Black & Tan Sheepdog and a Border Collie.

The Welsh Collies have been bred with several different Collies that are now nearly extinct. There was only one way to tell if a dog was a real Welsh Sheepdog: the manner it worked sheep, which differed from the approach used by Border Collies.

A Welsh Sheepdog Organization was founded in 1997 to preserve the breed. The American Breed Standards do not recognize the Welsh Sheepdog.
