A Yorkeltie is a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier and a Shetland Sheepdog. He’s an active pup with a lot of intelligence. Going on walks & playing are two of his favorite things to do.

He’s a wonderful family dog who enjoys kids. This tiny kid is obsessed with pleasing others.

His kind demeanor and unwavering commitment make him a perfect companion.

He is not unduly barky, unlike many little dogs, and he will warn you if a stranger comes and if he hears a weird noise.

Yorkeltie History

Yorkeltie Information 1024x768A Yorkeltie is a fantastic mix of his parental dogs’ excellent traits. Although the Yorkshire Terrier is little, he possesses all of the ferocity of bigger Terriers.

In Yorkshire, England, he was raised to go inside mines and kill rats. Because the Yorkies fit well into the narrow den openings, many hunters employed the canines to force foxes & beavers down into their burrows.

The Yorkie is said to have been bred from various dog breeds. The Manchester Terrier, Dandie Diamond Terrier, Paisley Terrier, Maltese, ancient rough-coated Black & Tan English Terrier, and Skye Terrier are all said to have influenced the development of the tenacious Yorkie.

The breed began to be transported out of Great Britain and then into America in the late 1800s, where they quickly acquired popularity.

The American Breed Standard initially recognized the breed in 1885, and it was placed in the Toy Group. The Shetland Sheepdog, popularly known as the Sheltie, is a breed of Shetland sheepdog.

He was born in Scotland’s Shetland Islands and is a descendant of the Collie. The herding breed is thought to have originated from King Charles Spaniel, the Rough Collie, & Spitz dog.

The Sheltie’s thick coat helped shield them from the harsh Scottish environment. The dogs were commonly raised inside the Shetland Islands in the 1800s and sold to tourists.

The Sheltie was recognized by the American Breed Standard in 1911 and placed in the Herding Group.

Yorkeltie Characteristics

The Yorkeltie has a thick, long double coat with a wiry feel. He’s available in brown, black, & white. His ears are similar to those of a Sheltie.

However, some examples have entirely erect ears in rare instances. With a long snout & soaring forehead, he has a foxlike appearance.

The overall aspect of the fluffy dog is exquisite. His skeletal structure is delicate and polished. His toes are little and feline-like. The dog’s tail is rather long, fur-covered, and may be held straight.

He walks with a strong, purposeful step.

How Big Can A Yorkeltie Get?

The Yorkeltie would most likely grow to be little more than 13-16 inches tall and weigh just under 11-24 pounds.

How Long Can A Yorkeltie Live?

The Yorkeltie is a dog with a reasonable lifespan compared to other dogs of this kind.

The life expectancy of this mixed breed is mainly determined by their health, which varies depending on good monitoring and care. It has a lifetime of 13 – 16 years on average.

How Much Does A Yorkeltie Cost?

The cost of a Yorkeltie is around 600$-1000$. That covers the puppy; it does not include things like a cage, immunizations, vet visits, a collar, food, water bowls, etc.

In reality, the cost of a Yorkeltie could be much more or cheaper. A genuinely excellent example may easily cost $800. Similarly, you could be lucky to get one in your area for just a few hundred dollars.

Yorkeltie Personality/Temperament

A Yorkeltie is a dog that is affectionate and loving. Nothing makes him happier than spending every day with his family.

He would prefer to delight his owner & enjoy each waking moment as a buddy than be autonomous like many other dogs.

He’s a perfect family pet because of his quick wit, intellect, & love of playing. He’ll be happy living in a flat as long as he’s getting enough exercise every day.

He plays along well with different dogs, but like with any dog, frequent socializing is essential. Obedience training and trips to the dog park will provide many opportunities for positive connections.

Yorkeltie Nutrition

Each day, a Yorkeltie requires only 3 cups of dog food, which should be full of protein & carbohydrates. However, because it is a high-energy dog, you should provide it with a diet rich in nutritious carbs and a sufficient quantity of crude protein.

You may either add some water to that Dry Dog Food or use Wet Dog Food.

How Do You Groom A Yorkeltie?

Brushing the Yorkeltie’s coat daily is important to maintain it tangle-free. He has a thick overcoat that he vents twice a year, allowing him to create a large amount of hair.

To maintain his fur in good repair, he usually needs a month’s wash. Cleaning her teeth a few occasions a week will assist in eliminating plaque and avoiding doggy breath.

His active lifestyle wears down his nails naturally, but he may require nail clipping if not. Dirt and debris can collect in his erect ears’ flaps, so washing them out with a towel can help clean them up.

Yorkeltie Activity Level

A Yorkeltie is an energetic breed that has to be exercised regularly. A daily stroll and some playing generally meet his demands.

He has a powerful herding instinct, which he got from the Sheltie. His herding instincts kick in when he’s around tiny children or other pets.

Because of his fast intellect, the breed is ideal for obedience, flyball, and agility. He enjoys learning something new, and he is most content when assisting his adoring owner.

He’ll be happiest if he gets enough time outside every day, so prioritize it.

Yorkeltie Health Concerns

One of the most crucial variables to consider when purchasing a dog is the pet’s health. Crossbred dogs are typically less healthy than mixed-breed dogs, leaving them more susceptible to health issues.

This breed is relatively healthy, with only a few small health concerns to be aware of. This breed is free of all diseases except for elbow and hip problems.
