A Yorkie Russell is a petite, active dog with a huge personality, a joyful combination of 2 of England’s fabled working Terriers, Jack Russell and the Yorkshire.

They are charming, friendly dogs who have a lively demeanor and are always trying to get attention from their masters.

Even if they’re only 15 inches in height, the tiny dogs have no qualms about going on adventures since their Terrier-bred character makes them courageous and curious, which may get them out of trouble.

They are obstinate while being clever and good problem solvers, which makes training difficult.

Yorkie Russell History

Yorkie Russell Information 768x1024While the contemporary designer hybrid has minimal historical significance, both parent breeds have a rich history as service dogs in England. Many Scots immigrated to London in search of work during the Industrial Revolution, bringing a variety of Terrier varieties.

It is thought that a Yorkshire Terrier evolved by crossing terrier mixes such as  Black English, the Paisley, Tan Toy, and Skye.

There is very little recorded evidence to show their exact lineage, as most of the mating was completed by industrial workers whose sole goal was to start producing a dog that would keep the vermin inhabitants as low as possible.

After WWII, the public’s desire for hunting dogs declined, but the public’s desire for poodle mixes increased, prompting breeds such as Welsh Corgis & Chihuahuas to be interbred, resulting in “Shortie Jacks” & “Russell Terriers.”

A Jack Russell Terrier Society of America was founded in 1976, and the breeding lines were eventually restricted to what we know today.

Yorkie Russell Characteristics

They have a variety of coats, the most common of which are long and straight or wire-haired, and come in a wide range of colors, including black, white, tan, and even silver and blue.

They have small to medium snouts in length, with black noses, extended mustaches, and brows.

The eyes are round & marble-like in appearance, and they typically have a vibrant smile on their faces. Their ears are usually pinched or folded, and their long hair juts out all around, giving them an untidy appearance.

Dogs have a squarish, forward-leaning posture, are longer than tall, have well-muscled legs and chests, and a medium-length, erect tail.

Yorkie Russell Personality/Temperament

Yorkie Russells are brilliant, joyful, friendly, clever, and lively dogs. They need attention more than nearly anything else, which may be good or detrimental. If they aren’t provided enough, they might become destructive or engage in undesirable behavior such as excessive barking.

They are also high-energy dogs due to their Jack Russell ancestors and require a lot of exercises to make them feel comfortable, healthy, and behave well. They are typically welcoming of most humans and other dogs, but they are frightened of small children.

Therefore additional caution should be shown when smaller children are around. Yorkie Russells, mostly like parent types, are very clever, excellent problem solvers, maybe headstrong and stubborn.

To maintain them at their best, training, exercise, and cognitively engaging activities are recommended. They make good family dogs and are reasonably adaptable to a broad variety of household life situations because of their loving nature.

With a reasonable bit of love, training, and care, they create special big dogs that are fairly flexible to various household life settings.

Yorkie Russell Nutrition

Each day, a Yorkie Russell requires only 1 cup of dog food, which should be full of protein & carbohydrates.

How Do You Groom A Yorkie Russell?

With the variety of hair, this hybrid breed may have, it’s correct to conclude they’ll require a wide range of upkeep, largely dependent on the length and density of the dog’s hair.

Generally, it will require some attention since the longer coats will require regular brushing, at minimum a few occasions a week, to maintain things strong and hygienic.

A couple of brushings with a bristle brush and a comb once a week should be enough. Bathing is largely left to the owner’s discretion and the coat features of the dog, but it should be done every few weeks and consist of bathing them with puppy shampoo.

Conditioners soften the hair to make it more pleasant for the dog while also making it easier to handle for the owner. The coat must also be cut, depending on its length, not only to minimize overall upkeep but so the dog can operate normally, with a clear field of vision with trimmed feet.

Excess moisture can create harmful bacteria accumulation in folded ears, so caretakers will want to inspect them for any changes regularly. Everything else is quite conventional, like cleaning her teeth at a minimum once a week and clipping her nails.

Yorkie Russell Activity Level

Yorkie Russells are relatively high-energy dogs for their size, and they require frequent exercise, attention, and stimulating play to stay happy.

They prefer lengthy walks and wide places to run and expand their extra energy, making them ideal candidates for a catch at the dog park if properly socialized.

They require around 7 to 9 kilometers of walk every week, plus extra 40 minutes of game time each day, to keep happy and healthy physically.

Because they’re a wise breed, occupying them with reward toys and cognitively interesting diversions will also help to alleviate their restlessness.

Yorkie Russell Health Concerns

One of the most crucial variables to consider when purchasing a dog is the pet’s health. Crossbred dogs are typically less healthy than mixed-breed dogs, leaving them more susceptible to health issues.

This breed is relatively healthy, with only a few small health concerns to be aware of. This breed is free of all diseases except for elbow and hip problems.
