Zuchon History

Zuchon Information 640x853The Zuchon is a mix between a Bichon Frise & a Shih Tzu, resulting in a hybrid dog breed. The dog was initially produced in the United States in the 1990s to produce a lovely, teddy-bear-like dog that might make a fantastic companion and be gentle with children.

It is said that the Bichon Frise originated in Italy. Sailors who discovered the canines on Tenerife, several of the Canary Islands, brought the breed to Paris in the 14th century. The Bichon is linked to the Bolognese, Maltese, Havanese, and Coton de Tulear and derives from the Barbet.

The popularity of the breed grew quickly among Europe’s nobles.

The breed was highly admired in Spain, where it was depicted by famous artists such as Goya. The Bichon gradually became too ubiquitous and commonplace, and ordinary folk like circus clowns & organ-grinders began to possess them.

The Bichon has regained popularity because of its charm and adorable appearance.

Wake of World war I, Paris producers were keen to maintain the breed, and in 1933, an official breed specification was established.

Tenerife and Bichon were the dog’s names; the breed was eventually dubbed Bichon Frise. The American Breed Standards recognized the breed in 1971.
