The Schapso is a cross between two different breeds. The Lhasa Apso is a Chinese breed that was once sacred throughout China. The Miniature Schnauzer is a breed from Germany. The masses created it for the masses. Combining these two dogs somehow created the Schapso, an amazing dog with a varying appearance but consistent wholeheartedness.

The breed was at one point guarded by platoons of their own. They came into the outside world through the Dalai Lama, who gave them away as gifts. The AKC registered it in 1935.
The Miniature Schnauzer is a shorter and more compact version of the Standard Schnauzer. The birth of the Schnauzer is estimated to have happened in the 15th Century. Originally these were slightly large dogs, used for the extermination of vermin on farms. However, by the beginning of the 19th Century, different dog breeds had been included in its gene pool, creating the Miniature variations. The AKC accepted these in the 1930s.

The appearance of the Schapso isn’t static. Due to the variation in the appearance of the parents, the Schapso can look either way. However, commonly the coat should remain longer than medium length.
